LCF and connectivity issues with a satellite dish

    Guys,
You have to help folks with slow internet connections like a satellite dish.

I've spent an hour trying to write a P.M. to a member and now lost all the work twice because this site times me out because of connection speed.

I have the same problem with posting photo's to this site. I have to go borrow a cell phone to post a photo.

Some of us don't live in the big city with quick internet access.

Dont think its your internet. I have issues with this site a lot. I get over 200mbps and its always this site that sometimes just doesnt respond and I have to close the internet to come back. Even then it sometimes takes a few times to get it going again. I would say its been happening randomly the last few months

Interesting. Maybe it has more to do with the connection type than the speed.
I used to have different internet and had some issues. Now I have no internet except unlimited Verizon data but that keeps telling me it's reduced to 3G because I used up my 4G, I run it constantly as a hotspot and connect a PC and laptop. Even reduced to 3G, I can watch youtube on my laptop and use the site on my desktop and it works great. So it makes me think maybe it likes a mobile connection better?

When you say you use a phone, is it 3G or 4G? It must be slower than satellite?

I'm in the boonies, no cable or satellite....just a mobile hotspot....no problems. That being said, we are now using a virtual dedicated server. The problem is cost. When we were using a real dedicated server, the cost was tremendous.....we went with the virtual to reduce costs enough that the membership would pay operating costs....otherwise we wouldn't be here. A lot of research went into that decision and it was the best we could come up with.

Eric, a specific solution for you would be to write your long response on Word, then copy and paste to avoid the time out

Word or some other "notepad". My pc came with a "notepad" program that I use on a regular basis to compose an email or save something while sorting through information or a reply. It works pretty well, once I got used to it.

Another thought is the "Autosave" feature on this site. Usually while composing a reply the site saves replies automatically while I work on them. (Not the images though, as I think that times out after 20-30 minutes.)

If it gets lost in the "inter-space" try this:

1)Click on the "Advanced" button next to "Post a Quick Reply"
2)Before typing in the "Text Box", look below (left side of the box) for a highlighted box that says "Restore Autosaved Content".
3)Click on this box and it should restore the last thing you were working on.
4)You will need to add images back in, but they should be on the site already if you loaded them previously.

EDIT: This works best when you have previewed your reply or you have spent considerable time on a reply. Short/quick responses may not be "auto-saved". You can practice by leaving the page on a trial reply, going back to the forum, and coming back to see if it was "auto-saved".

This is very good info. I just need to copy it and remember.
I wrote a P.M. twice last night and the site timed out. Then the same thing on my 1911-D RPM#3 or #6 response last night. Lucky I did what Roger said and logged out and back in. then pasted the response...

Another easy way that works with anything is, type then highlight what you typed and cntrl C then click on post.
That way if it goes off to lala land you can try again, type cntrl V and whatever you typed is back.

Of course, the one time you don't do that is the time it will go to lala land Murphys law in play.
