Hello Everyone!
Im new to collecting and wanted to get your input on this strange error I found. 1990 Lincoln Cent with raised "S" in the beard of Lincoln. Anyone ever seen this before?
The picture really isn't large enough to assess. That said, it is hard to imagine a scenario that would cause a raised letter. The MMs were no longer being added by hand (with a punch) and a dropped letter or a clash of almost any sort produces incuse, reversed lettering. Of course, much is still possible, and I have been wrong before...
(BTW, I merged your posts and pics as only one post on the same topic in the forum is needed.)
To bad the pics are to small to see... Welcome to the forum... Jason is one of the pros here... Since you are new to collecting you should visit his web site errorvariety.com... He has a way with words and photographs that make it easy for determining what you have... Other pros here include Bob, BJ, Mike, Wendell (Even though he says he's to young to be a pro) and many others... I'm not one of the pros... LOL... Again Welcome to the LCR and we look forward to your posts!!!
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I'm going to try and get a better picture for you all to see. I have a hunch this may just be a die chip that happens to look like an "S". The one thing that hung me up what it is "nearly" the size of the s lettering that occurs in the "States" part of the Reverse. I'll get a better pic for you all!
