1964D Quarter "Shiny" counterfeit???

Does anyone know what's up with this shiny 1964D quarter? I've never run across one this shiny, could it be electroplated, counterfeit or just shiny?
...I read they had a special struck with a special finish but somehow this one just looks odd, like it's a cheap knock off or something but I found myself checking the lettering and other things, it seems to match... It appears to have a die crack running all the way down the wing on he left side of the coin all the way to the Q in QUARTER. Maybe this one was cleaned or something? Maybe it's just shiny lol Any help or ideas what may be going on here is greatly appreciated

Maybe the toning is getting your attention.
With 90% is if it was ever dipped or cleaned to be pure white then later they tend to tone with color.
Hard to say if it's an unc or almost unc or if it was dipped or cleaned up to remove toning and re-toned.
I would look at it as nice silver quarter, the grade won't matter since it's like bullion worth the 90% silver price same as the one next to it.

Oh ok, it come incased in a 3rd party silver set I got a long while back... maybe it toned after all those years of being in that case, I cracked the casing so I just took everything out lol Thank ya Ed

I wouldn't be surprised if those sets were dipped.
Dipping silver is pretty accepted, they still can grade, even TPGs do it.
When they make those sets they might want them to look fresh and blast white.

It has a bumpy texture to the surface that reminded me of plated coins and I got the not-to-bright idea to check the rim.

They are not plated either but clad!!!

Don't forget to check out of few things on your 64 quarters - Type B rev, Error Ref info, Wexlers and some info from VV... VV doesn't have the design variety pages for the Washington 25c completed but there are links to listings for different items ... Nice looking 25c... Let us know what you find out!!!


Added - I have a bunch of silver coins of different denominations that came out of a presentation for american coins... All of them had been cleaned and polished including an 1881 morgan!!!

They aren't usually plated. But I thought someone may have tried plating it outside the mint to mimic an MS coin.
You know, like the way they re-plate 1943 steel cents.

I'm not following what you two are talking about. Pre 1965 silver coins made for circulation are 90% silver 10% copper, all melted together, no layers, no cladding. That would include dimes, quarters, halves and dollars.

I forgot to add 1942-45 35% silver war nickels and the 1851-73 75% silver 3 cent piece.

They are clad after 64 for the 10c, 25c, 50c coins!!!
