    1924-D Thick Numbers

Is it common for some wheats to have very thick numbers? When I was examining some I recently acquired I noticed this (pictures attached). Thanks for the help!

Wow, this is a really odd counterfeit. The letter and mintmark are all off. The date reads 1924D well enough, but just look at other examples of this date and you'll see what I mean.

Here's a sharp photo of an eBay you can compare it to: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1924-D-Linco...item53ee49f9c1

Notice the serifs on your D and the very different shape of the 2 and 4. Particularly, see how the eBay coin has a sloped 4, whereas the "slope" of your 4 is curved. Sorry, I really hope you didn't loose too much money on this.

Sean beat me to it. The mintmark is quie unusual, and I suspect a counterfeit, seeing as 1924-d is a semi-key date.

This appears to be one of those Chinese fakes. It could also be an older fake. How did you happen upon the coin?

        And welcome to the forum!

This was part of a larger lot of flipped wheats I purchased from an auction house a couple months back. Thanks for all of the help!
