Is it common for some wheats to have very thick numbers? When I was examining some I recently acquired I noticed this (pictures attached). Thanks for the help!

Wow, this is a really odd counterfeit. The letter and mintmark are all off. The date reads 1924D well enough, but just look at other examples of this date and you'll see what I mean.

Notice the serifs on your D and the very different shape of the 2 and 4. Particularly, see how the eBay coin has a sloped 4, whereas the "slope" of your 4 is curved. Sorry, I really hope you didn't loose too much money on this.Last edited by cimperialis; 08-19-2012, 02:31 PM.-Sean

Sean beat me to it. The mintmark is quie unusual, and I suspect a counterfeit, seeing as 1924-d is a semi-key date.Comment

This appears to be one of those Chinese fakes. It could also be an older fake. How did you happen upon the coin?
