I had a dateless buffalo and a damaged Indian cent I put in with some change and dumped it into a coinstar change counter once
BUT I always give the kids in the 4th grade at my wives school a "lucky" wheat cent before the big FCAT (standardized test) each year

I am easily amused, but I have kept 2 Indian cents that are very damaged. One of them I had to soak in vinegar (yes I did, only because it has no value except to me and maybe 1 or 2 others out there) for 2-3 days and scrubbed it with a toothbrush to finally make out the date as 1864.

I just think it is cool to look at and wonder what it has gone through (other than abuse).

would acetone take a finger print off?

Now, assuming or considering nothing but the question asked, it depends.

The longer the print has been there the less likely acetone will take it off.

            I seriously doubt it.

i always feel that putting interesting coins back in circulation to spur interests
is very rare that coin would ever be found.

i would say that alot of people treat pennies as trash and dont care even to give a 2nd glance
at one would be a waste of an effort. Look at the percentage how many people want to do away with pennies
all together. i even see Coin collectors give pennies a bad rap on web sites and also at my coin club.

Restoration of coins is very controversial. With that said. Experiment on pocket change you feel pretty comfortable has no real numismatic value.

                  (regarding acetone and fingerprints)

(should you attempt it, be very careful and probably only 100% acetone will work, if it works at all)
