    From what I know,you are correct. I thought the only way to tell a business planchet from a proof planchet was when they were of a different composition...like the modern silver proofs.

      Matte Proofs were struck using the same planchets as business strikes. They were struck with specially prepared die on presses that had extra pressure. Each die struck appox 1500 coins give or take.

          I make it out that the business strike will not have the same rim and other device detail that the proof has with the lesser pressure strike.
