Roller Lines: These are very thin parallel striations, often seen on both the obverse and reverse going in the same direction. Though sometimes blamed on improper alloy mixture, these thinner, more even lines are more likely from dirty or damaged rollers from the rolling mill when it was reducing the planchet stock to the correct thickness for coin production. More commonly seen in the late 70s and early 80s. Photo courtesy of jmangham.

Jdubbs, I found some 'wood grain' ones, they are yellowish flat finish, and from what I've read, yah, they are called 'woodies'. I am a beginner, learning still.

Me too, these fine folks here have are excellent at helping with that tho lol.
Nice find... Are there any on the rev??? Sometimes they are difficult to get pics of... All that I have seen in hand have the lines on both sides... They are called woodies even tho they are not created the same way... Here is the definition of woodie from our Glossary -
Improper Alloy Mixture: During the copper alloy planchet era (pre-1982), there were instances of errors in the alloy mixture which resulted in planchets which show different ribbons of color in them, often resembling wood grain. These cents are often referred to as “wood-grain cents,” or “woodies.”
I would say the roller lines are not woodies. Woodies are not a surface only thing. It's in the alloy mix so it's not only on the surface.
Roller lines are similar but they are only on the surface.
Very similar looking but not the same thing.
I dug out my roller lines example. I am going to confirm that the streaks are surface only by digging in. This is something provable, so I am going to do it.

I did the same thing in like 2010??? Don't know if the pics are still on site??? I used wrights copper cream and removed the petina and visible dark lines close to a rim in the field over the rim and edge then on to the other side... There were grooves left on the coins surface in line with the remaining lines... On a few of the coins there were grooves on the rims and edges!!!
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
