My computer is constantly freezing up and then it says, " internet exployer is not responding". I have to click on the red X in the upper right corner to get the computer to restart. Why is my computer doing this? I have McAfee and it scans all the time and says there are no problems. Any help would be much appreciated, and going to Photobucket really sloooows down everything. Alot of times during Photobucket visits, it freezes up and I eventually have to unplug and remove the battery then restart everything. I know this can't be normal so any clues or advice will be much appreciated, thanx...

I was told years ago to use Mozilla Firefox because of it's safety features. I had to stop using photobucket because it slowed down everything and it would freeze up. I use HP Essentials and Kodak photo shops.
Make sure you delete your pictures from your recycling bin, and your email. Maybe some else has has something better to help you out.

Do you get ant error messages... Also what type of computer do you have including speed, amount of memory windows version... This will help determine what is going on... Also in the interim you can delete the browsing history... Click on TOOLS up on the menu bar... Click DELETE BROWSING HISTORY... Then click the delete button... There is also a more convoluted way of ensuring everything gets deleted but it depends on the Windows version!!!Jim

For one thing, and this is only a matter of opinion, but Internet Explorer is not considered that good of a browser. Try downloading a different one, such as Firefox or Opera Browser. I can't really help you with the pictures issue as I've never had this problem before. (I'm on a mac) As for the photobucket thing, I think this is just an issue of computer RAM, and I think that photobucket takes a lot of it up if the computer is on the older side...Comment

I too was having the same problem. Here is what I did.
Installed Googgel Chrome, stopped using Internet Explorer
Installed and purchased UniBlue Registry Booster
Delete my web browsing history upon closing the internet each and every time
Delete all unused and unwanted files as soon as I'm done with them.
Think of it this way, if you have a carry on bag when getting onto a train, you want it to be as light as possible, have the important belongings and ID in there as well as keep space open for the return trip back.

Abe, you are having the same problem many users encounter. Vista and Internet Explorer or both from microsoft, else you would have more options from your software. Any computer will cease to respond if it failed to access any file or RAM. Your problem may just be RAM management.
You may delete your browsing history but will be sad when IE doesn't help you get were you go often, with the little drop down history of where you have been.
Sorry to say but few systems scan and operate well at the same time. Set Mcaffee to scan when you aren't online, and leave it on at night so updates won't hinder your daily operation.
Facts
Internet Explorer is used by 78% percent worldwide
Mozilla 12 to 15 %
The rest is made up with opera and many others.
As per security hacker online aim for the greatest percentage of user "hence seldom bother the less used Browsers.
I had 25,000 members in a site and internet explorer was by far the most trouble reports. But again they were the majority.
I use chrome and have no problems, but also have the other browsers so I may be able to address problems with them.
If your Browser has been hi-jacker then using chrome will work much better.

Another vote for ANYTHING (almost) but Windows Vista and Internet Explorer. Such as Windows XP, Windows 7, or any Mac operating system. Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are both good choices. I use Chrome.-Sean

Did you recently download the new IE 9? If so, revert back, as IE 9 is only for Windows 7 operating systems.
Is this a new problem? I doubt that you have a virus. McAfee normally deletes any virus as soon as it's downloaded. It may be you simply a problem of too little RAM. I would suggest opening Windows Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and going to the Performance tab and monitor the way your computer behaves when you attempt to use Photobucket. It may be you simply need to close all open programs to use it.
I would suggest even if it is a RAM problem to get a new browser. It may be that IE is the most widely used, but it definitely isn't the nicest. Google Chrome is my favorite, but in your case I would recommend Safari 5. You can download it free here: http://www.apple.com/safari/. Safari 5 uses HTML5 which should make graphics take less RAM to produce.
If Photobucket still doesn't work, don't use it! Simply upload your images elsewhere. Google has picasaweb.google.com for its image host. There are other image hosts as well. Just pick a good one and see if it works.
Hope that helps a bit. How much RAM do you have anyway?Wendell Carper

I build/repair computers professionally, I'll give you some help.
NEVER run out and install a third party browser to "fix" a problem. The problem is still there and it isn't because Internet Explorer is a bad browser. IE has a bad rep because that's what most people use and they gunk it up with all kinds of crap. The problem is not with IE, it's with users trashing it with toolbars, excessive temp files, malware, virsuses and a million more things. I see it everyday. IE is an excellent browser.
The first thing I want you to do is clean-up your system a little. Download and install ccleaner:
Be sure to uncheck the option to install google chrome during the setup. Run the program and let it clean everything. This will purge all your cookies and autocomplete history....so make sure you know all your login ID's and passwords in case you have to re-enter them the sites you visit. You'll notice a speed difference right away on your PC.
Next, download hijackthis:
Download Trend Micro HijackThis latest version for Windows free. Trend Micro HijackThis latest update: December 17, 2024
DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO YOUR PC WITH THIS PROGRAM. It's pretty powerful and made for experts. Just run it and create a log file, then post the file here for me to look at. I will tell you how to proceed.
Finally, I can't stand McAfee, it's a resource hog and it's easily killed by viruses. I've seen it completely owned MANY times. So bad, it took significant effort on my part to even remove it from a system. Are you using the "Internet Security" version with a firewall? Also, most users do not keep their subscriptions to date. I've seen many computers with 2-3 years since the last update and the user believed they were still being protected......you are NOT if your definitions are that old. I would uninstall McAfee and install the free version of Avast:
Download Avast Free Antivirus latest version for Windows free. Avast Free Antivirus latest update: January 27, 2025
Avast is an excellent AV program and it's FREE for one year at which point you can reinstall it to get another year.
Lastly, I want you to run a FULL scan with SuperAntiSpyware:
Download SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition latest version for Windows free. SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition latest update: January 8, 2025
Delete EVERYTHING it finds....and it will find stuff.
This will be a start.VERDI-CARE™ ALL METAL CONSERVATION FLUIDComment

McAfee misses all kinds of things. ALL files should be manually scanned before executing. NEVER trust the automatic background scanner of ANY AV program.
You are correct about RAM, but I suspect if the odd problems are recent, this has nothing to do with RAM and everything to do with excessive crap on the system. Nonetheless, I recommend a minimum 2GB of RAM for Vista and Win7.VERDI-CARE™ ALL METAL CONSERVATION FLUIDComment
