No disrespect, but I have been bemused by the excitement over this RDV. We must be desperate to assign importance to one (otherwise insignificant) half of a coin just because of its past association with (a significant) other half. Having gotten that off my chest; what is this puppy worth among those who think its collectible?

None taken here. You are certainly entitled to that opinion. I, as well as other attributers, have assigned various stages of the 1972 1c DDO #4 (FS-104) so as to be able to understand better why this variety is so rare and difficult to locate. Since the rim cuds caused the DDO#4 obverse to be prematurely pulled and replaced with a non-DDO obverse and then replaced again with a master die obverse we now understand why. We are simply providing information to collectors. It is up to the individual whether it applies to their collecting desires or not. But at least you have the information.

As far as value on this stage I don't know. I can say the the Stage (C) I came across last night (which is in the post) I sold for $79.50 in less than an hour in finding it.

              Regards,
              Billy (dvn)

Thanks Billy. Did I fail to mention that I LOVE THIS RDV? Especially since I think I may have one. Will post later. George

this is why the experts say search each coin thoroughly. I know you were not aware of this but there is so much to learn.

Lucien...who are you directing your comment to? That coin looks like every 1972 I've thrown out.
                        So-what-makes-this-coin-so-special? Anybody?

I suppose my comment was somewhat obtuse Aisha but the reverse of this '72 was once the reverse of the famous DDO '72. The markers are in part and maybe exclusively the die scratches between the U and N of UNITED and through/across the lower end of the N. This is the sole uniqueness of the coin. I wonder if I rubbed an ordinary 72 close to a '72 DDO (encased that is so the BIGG one does not get injured) would my rubbed coin carry a premiou for havin been in close proximity of the GREAT ONE?

                            Aisha,

Please refer to my DVN issue #16. It should help in providing the information you seek.

                            Regards,

You mean to tell me a scratch is what makes this the BIG one? REALLY? wow.
Thanks Billy, I'll surely take a look at it.
