    1992 D FiberGlass Penny?

Hi,Friends....Has anyone heard,or found,or seen on the NET a FiberGlass U.S MINT Penny? I don't mean a Game Token,or Plastic replica .I'd would deeply really appreciate Experts here at this Forum to tackle this Question.Does, or did U.S MINT make FiberGlass Pennys as a MODEL before Productions say a 1992 D? Is there anyone online that has In depth U.S MINT exprience to answer this Question ....Please? God Bless!

    Hi Beck,

While still being new at this hobby, I don't think they ever made fiberglass test pennies. Have you tried to contact the Denver mint with this question? Perhaps going to the horses mouth might give you more direct answers.

    Just a suggestion.

      Hi
I have never heard of fiberglass. I know that aluminum pennies were struck.

I agree with Lara. I don't believe the mint ever made such an item. I have found several plastic replica cents that look very detailed placed in rolls while searching.

That is probably what you have found. As always pics help!

        Thanks

          1. Please provide a link to NET.

          2. I am not an expert on Patterns, Trials, Test coins from the mint, however I have never read any information about a fiberglass substance being used for Lincoln Cents. Not to say it was not done due to the Mint being so secreative in there quest for suitable material to make coin.

          3. As stated in a post on this Thread your best bet for a correct response would be to contact the Mint.

I've never heard of such a thing and I'm highly skeptical. That would be an illogical choice for a coining material. I'd believe ceramic before fiberglass.

Perhaps I'm misinterpereting Voyager, but are you insinuating that you may have such a thing? Posting photos would be the best way of getting answers.
If that's not what you're saying, where does your question come from? Have YOU ever heard of such a thing? I never have.

I would categorically say that the mint has never made cents out of fiberglass. Not only that, the Denver mint is not involved in the design of coins. The date of 1992 has no significance either other than the fact that it was the last year before the reverse die change. As others have mentioned, you need to post photos if you have anything like this. If this is strictly a hypothetical question, you probably need to let us know where your train of thought is concerning this, and then think about using fiberglass in coins. Easily damaged...yes, would require a different mint setup to produce, ...yes. longevity in circulation...no.
Do you see where I am going with this? Please help us help you.

Lara,I Thank you for reading my POST.While walking from my Shopping..I usually like to hold my favorite coin in my hand and somewho managed to Drop it.I searched for it for atleast 3-45 minutes(sidewalk,Grass) and prayed to GOD please I'll never do it again. And, I found it....just a little story.I do believe that anything is possible, especially due to metal prices rising, and this may be some-sort of a ProtoType. Its does have a Precession Cross-like CUT right through the coin.Perhaps Done to not go into circulation or something like that...Pictures YES.This is my Second Treasure Hunt,As I get a few FINDS I go into the Photo shoot and Post pictures as well...ofcourse the 1992 D Fiberglass or sometype of Graphite Penny will be amongest the line up,too! The reason I had to post the message is usually one does not find a Penny like this in a roll and whats more the buliding on the back of coin is tilted sideways (error). What I am trying to say is that if someone was making a goffy replica, they would surely not make a Error on the coin like the Tilted building on the Back, yet the coins Front and Back are in Perfect allingment.Yes..I'll will Post the pictures just need a few days to gather up some more..Wal-Mart charges $3.00 everytime you Scan......the more the Merry!God Bless.

Thanks Friend, for your reply.Yes,If the US MINT can make 1)Brass Penny 2)Alluminum Penny 3)Metal Pennys of 1943 and during the Big Switch in 1983 made various combinations (metals) Pennys! I believe there is CHANCE... they were trying to make a FiberGlass or Graphite Penny..as well.Due to now coin machines take Dollar bills and Quaters, and even phone boths have telephone cards etc etc the industry did not have any real issue to say NO we dont want one...like in the past about the 1943 Penny (Metal) went under fire from the Public.I know one thing for sure, its not suppose to be in Public hands......I wonder what its worth to a Collector? God Bless!

A lot of you statements are misguided. Making coins out of aluminum, copper, zinc etc are legitimate parts of the process for changing the metal of coins. There is a protocol for that. Making pennies for vending machines is unlikely. What machine takes pennies any more? You mention a rotated reverse? Why wouldn't someone who is making a copy of a coin make this mistake? The mint's goal is to NOT make any mistakes.
You keep mentioning this is your friends, and you did research on the internet without finding anything. Did you consider that there is nothing because it hasn't happened? Why is it that you insist this is a MINT product, and you keep saying it might happen? Even if you post a pic, you have been given the rationale of many members, including the 'experts' you wanted to reply. Why keep challenging those responses?

I highly doubt such thing was ever evan considered by the mints.

Thank you Bob, looks like we've got another one....

Voyager- If you're so certain of what it is, why are you asking questions? You've received the views of some highly qualified individuals, yet you insist on knowing better.

Looks like there's only one place for you from here- eBay! Go make a billion bucks-
