    About banks selling rolls

I was reading a post earlier by "Scott99" who was sorting 2011's he bought as a 1/2 case (called 1/2 frogskin I think).... Anyway, he had found die trails off the 'e' of liberty and It appeared the supposition was that since this was a case of the same that he was going to find more or even more dramatic examples.

Again, pardon my ignorance, I'm not asking as presumptuious. When I buy rolls from bank, I don't generally get new series coins from the bank that are sequential or apparently direct from the mint. What I usually end up getting is a stack of handrolled dirty pennies that a bunch of crack heads banded together so they could buy a pack of smokes . The question is this.... Can I get my bank to release me new series issue coins that will be part of the same stamping series (meaning like consecutive die punched coins)? Cause what the above sounded like is you bought a box of pennies from the bank that were all 2011P's and once the press had some sort of oil/grit/debris or crack, then the rolls have all the same simular characteristics. I guess I was thinking that the coins, after cut and cast were sorta loosely mixed before the rolling occured.

Gedon, it's all a matter of luck what you find in any roll. And what you get from your bank is up to them. They may not ever get uncirculated bricks.Mine only gets theirs from their counter.

I think how I obtained the rolls was never discussed and this was probably taken out of context of the original posters' reply. I responded in my thread as to where I got the rolls of 2011p coins here.

I prefer hand rolleds (even if by crackheads) but most banks get their rolls form suppliers like Brinks who gets them from the Reserve and roll them for banks and businesses. I get a lot of 11's all new these times. The Reserve must be getting rid of their 11's. I also get 12's mixed with one or two older coins. Which thells me that the wrappers don't give a hoot about the mix. Anyway, it is the luck of the draw. Lately I have gotten bricks of brand new rolls hoping they were 12's and they turn out to be all 11's. (The bank will not open the brick for me and I have to take pot luck.)

Some boxes have holes at the bottom to inspect the rolls before opening ( a quality control measure). PNC bank has them and TD bank did before they went to brinks. Just something to keep in mind.

That is true, but the holes do not allow for seeing the date without opening the box. Once the box is opened, you have bought it, atleas in my neighborhood.

The same is true at my bank.I wish they would let me pick over my bricks.

Banks get what they get. If they have enough in stock in customer wrapped rolls, that's what you will get. If they have to order more, they either buy from another bank or the get them directly from a security company like Brinks. They don't specifically order new coins, they just happen to get them that way. You get whatever they get.

Here's a big tip I've learned, though it doesn't have much to do with the original question. Figure out when the Brinks/NF String/whatever truck comes around and delivers to the banks. The banks are so much more willing to give out bricks when they have just been stocked. Of course, some banks will never part with a brick regardless.

Bottom line, it comes down to laziness. I've personally noticed at my bank, that they're too lazy to call the manager (who sits no more than 30 feet away) to go into the vault with them. Instead, they give me the old "we're saving our stock for businesses" routine. Thusly, I haven't searched a circulated brick in over 2 weeks now. Got tired of the crap at the bank... just started buying bulk wheats instead and searching those. It's more fun anyhow.

hmm i guess im really lucky then maybe its because i dont get full bricks. Last time i went in i got $20 worth of pennies they always ask me what i want (new pennies, older looking pennies) I always say the older looking ones.
