    2000 P Cheerio's penny!

    Hi All

Found this yesterday at a yard sale. I paid 10 cents for it, hope I did'nt get hosed in the deal. All I ever got in boxes of cereal were cheap plastic toys. It says it is one of the 10,000,000 first minted. Hummmmm I wonder if I ripped it open and looked at the reverse it might be a WAM. Anybody know about what time of year the WAM's were produced?

I have 3 of them... I really enjoy the idea of the coin...they were made in 1999 and given to GENERAL MILLS for inclusion in the boxes to be released January 1 2000.The star of the boxes was the Sac dollars..made in 1999the reverse die was changed before the regular production run in 2000. the tail fathers changed....but as far as the cents... seen them going for 50 cent to $15.00 or more.....I had mine certified...If I had to guess the WAM's were latter in the year.... all of them that I have seen the reverse to ....close am.... if you open it IT will not be able to be certified as a Cheerio type..If you send it in... they will not return the paperwork unless you ask for it.... I wouldn't think that it was a WAM...but you never know

Thanks One for the information, Where would I send it to have it certified?

P.S. I was just kidding about ripping it open!

It was my understanding that ALL the Cheerios cents were WAMs. Mine is sealed in, obverse facing, so I can't say for sure.

Ok, NOW I can say for sure: http://www.teletrade.com/coins/searc...8535&pagenum=1

Yeah, sorry for not being clearer- all of the Cheerios cents that I've seen are the normal, Close AM (Thanks Brad).

I think mine is cool as heck, I paid $4 for it at a show and was happy to get it. I'd love to pick up more in their original packaging!

          Chris,

Would it be worth more certified and slabbed or in it's original packaging? I see huge price swings at the auction you linked but i'm sure that is due to condition...Correct?

          Thanks

I think in the long haul, the original packaging will appeal to collectors, I'm keeping mine original, it can always be slabbed. If you wanted to cash in right away, you could slab it. But it better be a high grade, it'd suck to pay $25 to PCGS and end up with an MS65 that gets you $9.

Not something I'd have thought of slabbing, but it seems to have worked for some.

Remember, the coin hasn't broken the $100 mark in well over 3 years.

Your right, I think it is more appealing in it's original wrapper...I really don't want to sell it right now I just found it. Thanks for the advice and link.

These were cool and I regret not getting one in the original package and just keeping it as is. cool find!

Good thread guys! Just to clarify, the Cheerios cents are all the regular Close AM.

The Dollars in Cheerios packaging are extremely valuable.

I beleive a few isolated examples were WAM - or there was a rumor they were - which is why I think there was a rush to get them. And those Cheerios dollars are like thousands of dollars - it's unreal.

I bought one on ebay a long time ago still in original packaging, they still pop up now and again.

Not all SAC dollars are the rare ones.

"The Dollars in Cheerios packaging are extremely valuable."

Not all the Sacagawea Dollars in Cheerios packages were the rare pattern coins.
Buyer beware when buying one thats sealed....you may not have the pattern coin!

I actually picked up 6 of these last year they're really cool all in original package. I paid a quarter for all of them. I have thought about submitting one of them keeping one and doing contest for the rest nut only time will tell what happens.

Nice pickup. I say get all you can.
