    Toning on steel cents

I am going through a HUGE bag of wheat cents for a coworker. When I say HUGE, I mean the bag weighs almost 70 pounds. There is a small zip lock bag included that has 1943 PDS cents. I am leaning towards most of the shiny ones being replated, but I am NOT an expert on this date. Several of these shiny coins have a rainbow tone to them. Do steel cents tone? Is it whatever they were replated with? Any help would be great.

They don't look replated from what I can see, but I am not an expert on toned coins.

Wow, a 70 pound bag of wheats...there are bound to be goodies in there, keep us posted!

I have a bag with over 3500 steelies and I don't recall seeing too many original 1943 cents that have toned like that Sean. They also do not look like they are re-processed but then again, they may very well be. The pics are great, but I just can't tell if they are reprocessed or not.

I will send you one with the three RPMs I am already sending in a couple weeks after you catch your breath.

I have already found about 30 RPMs, 4 from the CONECA Top 100, 2 of wich I needed for my set. I have found a few very minor DDOs. Quite a few die chips.

Incidentally Bob, I was at a coin show today. One dealer had a book by the author Jean Cohen. The copyright was 1969. It says it was limited to only 1000 copies, and this one was signed. It was a very thick hardcover book. It was devoted to only Lincoln cents. It had very few photos, but was filled with illustrations. It had sections on die cracks, die chips, and such. Are you familiar with the book?

Never heard of the name or book Sean, and I thought I had either had, or seen them all. With only 1000 copies, I guess I shouldn't be surprised though. Maybe some day, I can talk you into sending it down for me to have a look at (all postage paid of course).

I did not buy it. The guy wants $60 for it. It is cool, but it is really not a varieties book. It looks really cool, but I did not want to fork over that much $$$. I may go back tomorrow and get it. I cannot decide.

Oh..I'm sorry, I assumed you bought it. That is a pretty pricey book. I have tried to do some searching of her in numismatic circles, but haven't found anything yet. I will let you know if I find anything.

I also found a copy available on eBay. It has a good photo of one of the pages with illustrations. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Classificati...#ht_500wt_1180

Yeah, but for $100, that's pretty pricey...
