I have an account and blew up the photograph to maximum resolution...that coin is not worth that much...no way , no day , except of course to the bidder who paid for it.
Thanks Seal006 for sending the link. As you can see its just a 14P MS65. Definitely not worth what was paid. I had to go back and look at it 4 or 5 times just to make I wasn't missing anything. Strange for sure.
Maybe they thought it was a Matte Proof? Who knows?
Or maybe they thought that being in an old school holder, from a time that PCGS was reportedly tougher on the grade, that they could take a chance and resubmit for a 66. But you might be right; Lange states that given the textured fields, 1914Ps are often mistaken for proofs.
