Lucy- I really meant it when I said I was not directing comments towards anyone specifically. And I too am sorry if the harshness of what was said was in any way upsetting.

It was only chance that your thread was the one that this subject arose- it's been on the minds of MODs and other members and simply needed to be addressed. It made more sense to address the posts in a relevant thread rather than put a sticky- I think it catches more attention this way.

Again, absolutely no disrespect to ANYONE who has read this, simply a reminder of what makes us all passionate about what we love.

This is one of the reasons i dont post any more on here

That is what we are trying to fix Colleen. Sometimes, the responses are just plain wrong in the way they are presented. We realize it has been a problem, hence the reason why you will see a continued effort to fix it by the moderators and owners. I am truly sorry you left for these reasons, but I can assure you, we are looking at it very carefully now, and will be proactive in our resolve to fix the problem.

We bitch about calling them "pennies." So, I wonder why we all think it is ok to call our "five cents" nickels? They aren't nickels. They are "Five cents." Just sayin....
Another thing I always think about us the bricks from the bank say pennies right on the box! So why is it so wrong to call them that!?

Because it says "cent" right on the coin. Pennies are made in the UK. And remember, the LCR is about education so correcting people on terminology is right in line with what we want to accomplish. I call them pennies all the time when I go to a bank or the store, but as a numismatist, why not use the right terminology ?

I get a little tired of the anal insistence on calling them 'cents' - I call them 'pennies' because that's the colloquially accepted term for them in this country.

I write about them as 'cents' because that is their proper term.

There is a big difference between the two. Knowing proper grammar and using proper terminology (with correct spelling) is important for anyone making a point in writing. Colloquial terms, contractions, and abbreviations are fine in typical conversation, but they have no place in writing.

So are we 'conversing' or are we 'publishing' here? Your choice, I suppose, but I consider what I do here 'conversing.'

Can't we all just get along?
How about we call them 'pennents'... or maybe 'centennies'?
                  Either one works just fine.

I like what Chuck had to say, but I'm all out of "thanks".
