I have never thought of keeping track till I got here. I rarely look through circulated stuff. I am still sorting out stuff from when I stopped for my break. And I search bare handed and yes wash a lot. Hot water and dawn liquid soap for me.
Keeping track of the number of coins you've searched

Copper Oxide is pretty toxic. In the day as a construction Electrician we were warned that if we were cut or punctured by copper strands to get to cleaned. Over the years I would get tiny, infected sores when pulling/trimming wire because you get tiny nicks while wire working. So a reaction to copper oxide could be your sourceArJohn

Always wondered why my fingertips got sore after doing wiring...does cleaning your hands afterward prevent that ?Comment

Interesting. I always cleaned my hands real well with hot water and soap until I didn't have any more gunk but I still got the sores.Comment

That sounds so gross VAB lol. Furry, maybe you have an allergy to it that makes the reaction to the toxicity of it stronger. Than again I'm norther a doctor or scientist lol.Comment

Maybe. I never used gloves before and didn't have an issue until I upped the number of boxes I searched per week. I'm thinking that it was enough of an increase in exposure to mess me up.Comment

As with many things - sometimes added exposure actually increases the reaction. I have a SIL that had a slight allergy to eggs. One Holiday season she touched the merange of a lemon merange pie. Her face got so swollen and her eye was sore and swollen as well. Her Dr said, the next ingestion, or large contact with eggs could kill her.
With copper oxide -- I believe it is absorbed through the skin as well through cuts. So yes once you contact it - time and amount count...ArJohn

Don't need to count as we do 12 boxes a week rain or shine (624 boxes a yr= 156000). We search bare handed. We go through so many pennies we are constantly cleaning our hands, the base of our scopes, the guts of our rolling machine, etc. The grime builds up fast. We also keep a big tub of disinfectant wipes on our tables.Rock

How many people do you have to search that many boxes? I have been doing 8 a week for about a year and it is a ton of work to do alone.Don't need to count as we do 12 boxes a week rain or shine (624 boxes a yr= 156000). We search bare handed. There are 2 of us. My brother and I are partners in this. We both search 6 boxes a week.
And that's 1 million, 5 hundred and sixty thousand cents looked at under the scope...both sides.Rock
