Who's up for a group submission to PCGS?

    Hey gang,
In another thread, I was discussing submitting a coin to PCGS for fellow member, Keith. Well, I got to thinking and decided I'd do it for anyone that contacts me this week. I am a collector club member with submission privileges at PCGS. I am not a dealer. I am not looking to make money. I am doing this just to be a friend of the forum.
With the annual cost of membership, express shipping to PCGS both ways, grading fee, handling fee, etc, the cost can add up in a hurry. This might be a good chance to pull out your prized find and tack it on to the Lincoln Cent Forum's first "Group Submission."
    Here's how it works:
Just contact me and state your intention to join in.
I'll get back to you with how much you owe. (Currently it costs $16 per coin at the modern tier, 1965-present, $20 regular 1909-present. Add $6 for return shipping to you in a small priority mail flat rate box, and kick in for shipment to and from PCGS/ and the handling fee ($8 charge from PCGS, not me.)
I estimate the cost to be around $30 to submit at the modern level. It's $49 to grab the cheapest membership level from PCGS, so it's something to consider.
Variety attribution for coins without a PCGS number is currently at $24. There is a half off collector club special, but it only applies to the first 5 submitted and I have to check whether or not they can go on the same submission as the rest of the coins.
Any member interested should contact me ASAP with any questions and promptly mail their coin to me in a non PVC flip with the payment. I'll handle the rest, and you will receive a tracking number and submission # to track the progress.
Be forewarned that it is a slow process that usually takes about a month. Oh yea, awesome high resolution digital images are available through PCGS' true view service for what I believe is a reasonable price, $10 a coin.
Interested parties, let's get this together this week so that I may mail it off no later than Wednesday, December 17th.
And for the learning aspect of this project, post in this thread the best image of the obverse and reverse of the coin you are sending off with the grade you are personally assigning to it. When they're all slabbed, we'll compare your grading to the professionals, all in good fun.
    Now, who's in?

Just a reminder that if anyone else is interested in submitting coins to contact me ASAP for pricing and instructions.
I'd like to get it off in the mail to PCGS by next Wednesday, December 17th.
        Thanks

One of the best ideas I've seen on this forum! Very generous of you Dennis. I might try a couple, total would be $30 each for 1965 and later?

Thanks, Thad. I had hoped for more participation, but I realize it still is expensive. I still have the half off privilege for variety attribution this month, and so nobody but Keith and I are on board for this "Group Submission, " I could apply this to the first couple of people who'd like to use it.
It's about 30 dollars W/O the attribution fee tacked on, which is normally $24, but only $12 each this quarter for up to five coins.
So, it'd still be around $42 per coin unless it is a big variety that ready has its own PCGS number. (They don't charge extra for those.)
Let me know, submission will go out next week.
            Dennis

Well, this was a complete bust. Sent off two coins for submission today, Keith' s 1983 ddr and mine. I created another thread for a "guess the grade" before PCGS slabs them. My hope was to have a good many to send in and test our knowledge of grading and learn a little, but these will have to do.
I am surprised by the lack of participation, but I realize it isn't cheap and the forum as a whole has slowed down considerably.
              Keep up the hunt, all.
              Dennis

It wasn't a bust for me. It was a very generous offer and I couldn't let it pass. Maybe in the future members will see how this worked and what an opportunity it is to have a prized possession graded and slabbed. Be careful what you wish for Dennis, you may get overwhelmed if you decide to do this again. Thank you!
