Hey gang,
In another thread, I was discussing submitting a coin to PCGS for fellow member, Keith. Well, I got to thinking and decided I'd do it for anyone that contacts me this week. I am a collector club member with submission privileges at PCGS. I am not a dealer. I am not looking to make money. I am doing this just to be a friend of the forum.
With the annual cost of membership, express shipping to PCGS both ways, grading fee, handling fee, etc, the cost can add up in a hurry. This might be a good chance to pull out your prized find and tack it on to the Lincoln Cent Forum's first "Group Submission."
Here's how it works:
Just contact me and state your intention to join in.
I'll get back to you with how much you owe. (Currently it costs $16 per coin at the modern tier, 1965-present, $20 regular 1909-present. Add $6 for return shipping to you in a small priority mail flat rate box, and kick in for shipment to and from PCGS/ and the handling fee ($8 charge from PCGS, not me.)
I estimate the cost to be around $30 to submit at the modern level. It's $49 to grab the cheapest membership level from PCGS, so it's something to consider.
Variety attribution for coins without a PCGS number is currently at $24. There is a half off collector club special, but it only applies to the first 5 submitted and I have to check whether or not they can go on the same submission as the rest of the coins.
Any member interested should contact me ASAP with any questions and promptly mail their coin to me in a non PVC flip with the payment. I'll handle the rest, and you will receive a tracking number and submission # to track the progress.
Be forewarned that it is a slow process that usually takes about a month. Oh yea, awesome high resolution digital images are available through PCGS' true view service for what I believe is a reasonable price, $10 a coin.
Interested parties, let's get this together this week so that I may mail it off no later than Wednesday, December 17th.
And for the learning aspect of this project, post in this thread the best image of the obverse and reverse of the coin you are sending off with the grade you are personally assigning to it. When they're all slabbed, we'll compare your grading to the professionals, all in good fun.
Now, who's in?
Dennis
