    1926 P anomaly or damage?

When I first looked at it, it thought it was a harshly cleaned coin but now I'm not sure. The rims and some of the high points don't have the anomaly and just thought that odd if it were damage.

    Thanks for any input, Jon.

Maybe wear and grunge makes it not show on the rim.

I did think about that. I've known people to carry a Morgan dollar in there pocket for awhile to get rid of scratches from cleaning.

Most of the time wear won't take the woodgrain off since it's not only on the surface.

I think this one had that even pattern on the lower obv then some streaks above that, almost the whole surface.
It must be grunge and wear hiding it on the rim but it's probably there too.

I doubt they are scratches at all, notice how they don't stop at the details. I think it's pretty typical for a woody.

On red uncs the pattern probably barely shows, it's differences in how it tones that brings them out.

Yeah, it probably has something to do with different metals in the alloy toning differently. Along the lines of an improperly mixed alloy.

I'm with Ed, looks like an alloy mixture problem.

Thanks Cliff and Will!! I'm excited to get it cleaned up. I've not found a woody that was this aggresive in color differences!

A non roller line woodie... Cool... A bit of an acetone bath may help just a bit... That coin has character!!!

Alright, this will be a long process getting this where I want it if at all. I'll rotate between olive oil and acetone for the next few weeks to see where it goes. I wouldn't put that much time into it but it's just so cool looking!!
