Your batch from the bank will be more fun, better mix. This is also why sometimes it's so fun to search a wheat bag, they always have some good stuff.
You know Ed, one of these days I'm going to find a place to get wheat bags - I would LOVE to search those! Wheat cents have always been my favorite, well IHC's too, so when I retire that will be my main focus!

Well... shucks... it is what it is, but maybe I will find something in these boxes pretty soon to make it more exciting

Therefore, (in my mind) the only way more than one DDO would show is if during the filling of that big cart - a die change takes place. Now I can not say what happens to those carts once filled. So to me it would be feast or famine as Ed stated. Now once they get to the Federal Reserve Bank in bins/bags or what other transportation method is used before they get rolled would seem where the mixing of different press runs would occur. Likewise again, at a bank when coins are mixed once again for rolling. So my assumption is your darn lucky to find a DDO to begin with regardless.

Thank you WaterSport Bob! I wondered how the coins get from the press to the bag... so there's a cart of them and after that they are somehow placed in one of these Ballistic bags ($4,000 face value) for shipping. Here's a link to the Ballistic bag. Then the Ballistic bag is processed in paper rollers. Hummm... I wonder if the Mint just running one Schuler press or do they have several?

I'm sure that BJ had a good laugh at me a few times - when I was finding trail dies in new year boxes of Shields, a couple of times I sent him a minor to see if it was "a minor" and it was VERY minor LOL! I can laugh about it now - but it all part of the learning curve - my curve just went all over the place
Viv, I really do understand, had a couple tonight that I fought for about an hour and were low numbered DDO and DDR's, I saw Will's face for a second and then tossed them, (I love to hate you Will....but I love ya!). Tough love in this hobby is best, my personal take....

Thank you for the nice thought Jon! I've been so bogged down and busy I haven't looked for a coin shop, maybe there is one in Birmingham or Huntsville? I know there's not one close by or I would have already been there

that's even worse... you see Will's face! I just remember him telling me over and over... "I don't know whether to cry or wind my watch" and that made me want to give him a little smack! But, he is just trying to teach us the truth of the matter!

Awww thank you so much Jon! I really miss you guys and I think about you all when I'm busy at work, wishing I was at home so I can see what you are all doing and have some fun searching Lincolns! I'm hoping for a change in my schedule soon!

Thank you for the pep talk - this process is going faster since I changed my set up and I can search over a 1/2 a roll at once!

Each person learns at their own rate and in their own way... You have grown up big time... You went from the cracks, chips and trails to minor DDs and now have graduated to the next level... Before you know it you will be able to search a brick in an hour or less... Way to go!!!

The Ballistic bags are new to me...Maybe they replaced the rolling cart ?? Anyway, the machinist is standing by while the the cents are ejected into the carts. Every once in a while they reach in and grab a few to look at with a loupe. What they are checking for I have no idea. Alignment, broken dies, you name it. But mint doubling I doubt. Have fun with your searches.

Vivien, here's my 2 cents worth on shield cents and wheat cents. If I get a box of new D MM shields I return them to the bank. If the box is P MM shields I keep them. I have quite a few of these still sitting and unsearched. Regarding wheats I have bought quite a few good sized batches of them on Craigs List and similar sites from individual owners. I feel fortunate that in most cases they have not been searched very well and I feel good with my finds even though I have probably over paid for them. In addition I continue to buy circulated bricks from banks each week. I like the variety of switching between searching circulated bricks and wheats and have difficulty staying focused on searching the new shields unless I know in advance what I am looking for. Everyone has their own way of staying motivated and that is a key to success. Vivien, you are an unbelievable blessing to LCF. Thanks for ALL you do!! Larry J

Thank you Bob! Yeah, the ballistic bag in the link looks a little different from the huge bag I saw in the Minting video but they are probably the same thing. I've seen what you are talking about where the mint worker looks over a few cents with a loupe, but the video doesn't show where the cents go after that and how they get into the huge bag. I just imagine that however they get into the bag is how so many different die pairs get mixed together so if one run produced a doubled die it truly is like a needle in a haystack! Thank you very much for your insight!

Thank you so much Larry J. for your kind words! Also, thank you for sharing with us how you go about scoring so many great finds! You have a great system going and I agree that having a variety of wheats, Memorials and Shields to search will keep things more interesting! Today I finally scored $45 of customer rolls from the lady who came into the bank yesterday with $600 of rolled up coins that were saved for a vacation! Just poured out one roll and there are very few Shields... I see a 1970 and 1972 heads up - I'm so excited to have some nice Lincolns to search and I have 5 more days of vacation! Yay!!!
