Always saying this, most dealers do not know much about doubled dies.
They might only know about the few in Yeoman or the Red Book like the most well known 17, 55, 72, 83, 84, 95 if even that many. If they even understand those it's lucky. They may be good dealers for collector coins but so clueless about doubled dies that they're too clueless to know they are clueless. They also probably don't care to learn, they only care about the stuff people come to buy at their shop. Their answer was sort of "it's not the 72 DDO (die-1 the only thing they've heard of)"
Maybe some dealers will go beyond that and know of the big ones plus a confused understanding of that there are others from seeing ebay listings so they're confused, almost none are variety people.
On the bright side, you could go to that shop and cherry some nice stuff they don't look for.

This is not the first time I have heard about some coin shops up there passing some disinformation. Can't pass on good info if you don't even know it yourself. Die 008 is one of the strongest doubled dies in the entire series. As long as you get your coin back, it is all good. There is a buyer out there that knows his stuff.Bob Piazza

On the other hand, he may have never even been to a dealer....just making an excuse to back out on what he thought was an 001 or somethingComment

That happens way more than you would think. The buyers make up something because they don't want to feel stupid I guess.
Funny story is I sold a doubled die years ago and buyer asked for a refund because he needed a magnifying glass to see it lol. I gave him refund and got coin back lol.
It made think of that comedian saying Here's Your Sign lol.Last edited by Jacob; 05-24-2020, 09:03 AM.Life is not about greatness but on the impact of good onto others. It is a matter of how much one shines. Explains why I like shiny coins.Comment

Got to the bottom of it. Just got home today and the coin is here. He peeled off part of the 2x2 that showed what he paid for the coin. He wrote a price that was double with a sharpie. Must not have got any buyers. Blocking this guy for sureComment
