I rarely bid in auctions because of the exorbitant buyer premium, but have participated a time or two. Just received the following message from Heritage:
"
An anonymous Heritage client has made an offer of $3,300 - $2,970.00 after Heritage's commission of *10% ($40 minimum per lot) - on the following item.
Our records indicate that on July 14th, 2019 you bought the item for $1,740.00 from Heritage Auctions. If you accept, you will receive 70.7% more than what you originally paid, minus any shipping and other costs you’ve incurred.
"
Below is a link to the MPL that I won graded PCGS PR64RD with CAC. I bid because I think even on its worst day the coin is a 64 all day long. Also the eye appeal is outstanding for the grade even if it was graded 65. At its current grade it is $1650. in the PCGS price guide.

I firmly feel that if one buys quality that there will be ongoing demand for it in the future. However, in this case I don't understand why someone would offer that much over the going rate.
