I think it's about time we minted a coin again that symbolizes unity.Lincoln had the shield put on coinage over 140 years ago. Some people think it represented victory for the North, but thats wrong,it represents unity both north and south ,east and west. Thats all I've have to say on it ,thanks for listening to my ramble. Art

I don't think much artistic quality went into it. I do not care for it.

jpl6332, You have that right. I don't think a class of kindergarteners would have picked that reverse.

At the LP-4 ceremony at Washington DC That I went to . I do believe it was said that there was 14 or 16 different designs and they pick this one which does hang on the walls of the capital. That is it was hanging on the wall before the design was picked.

By comparison to all the memorial reverses including the 2009 which I love, the 2010 is not showing the best artistry and design that's avaliable. Since we have to live with this design for awhile we have to grow to like certain aspects of the design. It may have been a question of cost because of the amount of cracks on the 1980-2009 coins, which had more raised areas. The 2010 coin has a flatter and wider design area and larger letters hence less prone to cracks. In addition the simplicity of the design might make Doubled Die Reverses less likely. IMHO only time will tell. Maybe we should take a look at the earlier shield cents and see how many DDR's are on record, even though the process has changed for producing the 2010. I am a novice but I invite the professionals to share their opinions.

I hope I'll get a little more positive about it as time goes by.

Its a nice throw back design from the indian head cents. Not too flashy not overdone. Just right. Figuring how they botched up the nickel and over killed the quarter sets , this wasnt a bad way to go. and for a chipologist like me a few nicely placed chips are being discovered in nice places on this design as opposed to the old lincoln memorial . Lot more exciting. Overall Very pleased
