Just came across this one while trolling EBay. The coin is interesting, but not sure if the price is.

Seller says that it runs from above designer initials... but, I guess that could mean it starts above the FG beginning from the rim. With the size of that crack and the offset, one would think that it makes it all the way to the rim above the designer initials. If it were my listing, I would have shown in pics where the darn thing terminates.
For it to be considered a median split die, the crack is supposed to be a certain thickness. Not real sure what the exact criteria is.

Did a little research. It wouldn't be a median split die as that requires the 2 portions to be almost equal in size. This one would be asymmetrical.Last edited by Guest; 10-21-2013, 04:44 AM.Comment

I see no indication of this being a split die or a retained cud. While there is an indication of the crack being bi-level, this could be caused by the infrastructure of the die collapsing under the die crack.Though dies are made from steel that tend towards being a crystalline formation, there is still some elasticity in that metal which would allow for the substance to bend and create a bi-level crack.
Interesting but definitely not worth the price.

He needs a whole shot of the reverse. Impossible to fully assess without one.
