Hi and welcome to the forum!

SMS' were only made from `65-67...these two are probably just higher MS examples. I routinely find decent MS 60's even now, 50+ years later. Probably sat in someones' penny hoard for a long time!

There were some 1964 SMS cents struck, but they are rare. They would have square and sharp edges similar to a proof coin. Hard to say for sure about yours without better close-ups.

Yep, there's some story of why they exist from 64. I think it was something like there were some in the mint directors (I think???) estate. Somehow the stuff got broken up and sold then people realized those were SMS coins but they were sold off in different ways and then some examples maybe 20???? or so of each denomination have been attributed. Anyway, something like that, don't take that as verbatim, search the web and you'll find stuff about them.

LOL, almost forgot to add, almost no chance that the cent is an SMS.
Odds are many millions to one against it and it looks like a normal unc not an SMS.

Doesn't look like an SMS to me.
What made you think it is? Because it is shinier? The 64 SMS cents were satin finish, not shiny.

Also, they only came from one die so they can be attributed by die markers so to prove it to yourself you'd need to look at pics of known ones and compare markers and the finish. Probably all or most of the known ones were found because someone knew they came from that estate, odds of randomly finding would be slimmer than slim.

There was a similar thread on here long ago, here's a link to archive:

So first I should say due to real work I haven't been paying much attention to the Lincoln Cent search. I found a very odd 1964 cent that I immediately "assumed" has to be a 1964 SMS. I thought that immediately upon picking it up, sharp rims I could feel and very nice looking for a 64. I opened a similar 1964 cent

                    Here's a link to a real one:

Thanks for the extra pics, and I agree that these are just nice, normal circulation cents.
