This one really got my attention and hopes up. Then noticing the concentric die scratches and the md on the face... oh well, maybe it is not a real doubled ear lobe?
Thanks bunches for checking.
Jean
I'd say MD, Jean... based on what I see under Abe's nose and lower lip as well as the lower part of the rear hairline (near the collar). But, let's see what the others think.
Probably MD as suggested, at least that's what appears to be under the lip and nose. The ear anomonly might be die deterioration, but its probably MD too.

I'd send that one in. What we see under the nose and lip looks like just the lighting in the photo to me. At anyrate, it looks way different that that what we see under the ear. It does look like it might be die deterioration, but it might be an abraded doubled ear. At the moment I'd call DDD, but these things are hard to call on photos alone.
Wendell Carper It's a bird! It's a plane! Aw nuts... It's merely two die scratches!
I have to agree with Wendell on sending this in... It may very well turn out to be MD but I'm leaning toward a DD... The lines may be from a strike thru and that could have caused the coin to shift creating the MD around the nose/chin area... That could also explain the weakness of the DD on the ear... Just my opinion!!!
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!
I think you should send the coin to Billy, Jason, or BJ for a closer look. The doubling of the ear, if taken alone, looks like it could be a doubled die. Its association with the machine doubling on the face could be coincidental.
Thanks everyone!
It would be exciting to have found an 1983 doubled ear. All I can do is send it in and hope someone decides it could be. If not, then I have a very nice curiosity here.

I thought MD at first but I am leaning on doubling. Take a look at the bead and the hair above the back collar. The hair is similar to the 1974-D I posted earlier. Not sure what I would judge for the nose and lips. I also like the CW whirling effect in the die scratches.
Yeh those circular die scratches must be worth something extra to a collector... like me maybe...
But the doubling on the forehead, nose, lips, chin and throat are more like trenches. It is very striking. (no pun intended).

It would be nice if your could share another pic or the nose/lips/chin at a different lighted angle to help appreciate what you see. All I can see is MD, but the other doubling tells me that you really have something there. This is one of the reason I share so many picks so the group can [hopefully] appreciate what am seeing in real life .
It also helps me get better feedback when i think I see a rainbow and it's just swamp gas
