This looks like a very, very small rim cud on this 1956D. The reason I'm posting it is I was wondering if there are any large cuds for this date in this same location. Where this might be a early stage progression of a larger cud.

This one is very interesting! It doesn't look like a cud because the edges are too defined. The lowest portion of the per se cud has the striations that are on the S and T so I'm thinking that is the actual rim that was pushed into the field. BUT! There is something else about it that just doesn't feel right and I can't figure it out right now. Let's wait for others to comment.
