Do you really want to sell it? Quickly or whenever? I can ask someone if there is a significance to 1973D and a DBL struck. My big concern is the condition of the coin. I just cannot make it out. If there is an issue with the coin, slabbing isn't an option.

Possibly wanting to sell. The condition, I think, is probably better than what the photos are showing. I wouldn't even think of trying to clean it, but I think it's probably pretty dirty. All of the raised markings are pretty clear, not a lot if wear-down from circulation. I can't seem to 1) get pictures that do it justice 2) find anything even remotely like it anywhere.

If you are interested in doing more searching, try Heritage Auctions for comparable pieces.

A reliable source thought $100-125 on eBay and slabbing probably would not yield a higher price. You will need better whole coin shots though.

JCUVE, thank you so much for your advice. I'm working on better photos right now. As a novice, I really appreciate any feedback, so I am glad I found this site.

Completely missed this thread until now. I'm guilty of skipping over threads with titles like "unusual cent found" or "weird penny encounter." Almost 100% of the time, it turns out to be nothing more than machine doubling. Great find! It's hard to believe that this circulated that much until someone noticed this very obvious error!
