This one has me stumped. My first thought was that it looks a bit like it may have been struck through a late stage die cap. Maybe it's a greaser...or maybe (probably) damage. What do you guys think?

The thing that got me was the weakness on Abe's bust. The rest I could have chalked up to damage, but the weakness on his bust looks like of like some of the struck through die caps that I have seen.Comment

I guess it's possible it is a struck through late stage die cap, but I am curious about the obverse being a possible DDO. I believe it is 1DO-003 that has a clogged 8 (Die chip) in the date.Bob Piazza

Nice find... I am leaning toward the late stage capped dies also... I also think Bob is correct about the DDO 003... Your 9 also appears to match up with CCs 003... Can you find any obv or rev markers... i think obv markers would be the best as the obv die on yours appears to be a VLDS (Nice ridge ring)... Markers would be about the only way to be certain on the DDO!!!Jim

I definitely see what could be the die chip in the 8. The rest of the obverse is too mushy to make out any details with my loupe. Looking on the reverse, I'm not seeing any of the markers that are shown on copper coins though. Could just be result of wear (?)Comment

The rev die is fairly worn but not as bad as the obv die... Could be the rev is a different die all together... Maybe a good candidate for an in hand look by one of the pros???Jim

If that's the case, it will have to wait as I am moving to Korea next month for the next year. Unfortunately I will be out of the coin game until I get back.Comment

Try to check back in from time to time... I spent 10 months in Korea (1980 - 1981)... It was a culture shock for me at first but was still awesome once I got out and started seeing some of the local areas... Lots of history there and I know that things have changed drastically in the past 36 years... No more midnight to 0400 curfew

I've been to Korea 2 times for language training so I am pretty familiar with Seoul. I love it. It helps that I speak Korean
It's going to suck since I am leaving my family behind for the year.
Oh and about that curfew....Now it's 0100-0400.....at least it was when I was there last summer. Ugh.Comment

To bad the family has to stay behind wish I could have taken my family when I went... I really liked Seoul... A buddy of mine when I was there had a Korean Senator as a father-in-law... Needless to say we didn't need to drive... The chaufer took us where ever we wanted
I am surprised a curfew was in effect but then with the climate I guess it is needed!!!
