Cliff, I was just going to ask you if the two coins were exactly the same. Could not remember since they are in two different threads. That does make it seem like a die issue. It will be interesting to see what Mike thinks!
Luckily we have the Eveready Bunny of Lincoln cent imaging here on LCF. He keeps going and going.
I sent the first one to Jim who volunteered to image it and he will have some good images to compare to this second one to see if they are the same.
(By the way Jim you have my permission if needed for using any of my images for side by side comparisons if you like.)
I took a loupe look at your coin last nite... Very cool looking... I may be wrong but it looks even more like a lathe issue??? I will need to do a little research but should be able to get some pics up no later than tomorrow... I need to look up some info on the lathe work done by the mint... I think Wexlers site has some images I can look at??? I also need to look at the arcs in the lines... They may or may not line up for lathe issues... Can I use your images of your 2nd coin for some overlays???
Jim (A.K.A. Elmer Fudd) Be verwy verwy quiet... I'm hunting coins!!! Good Hunting!!!

Why of course young man.
You have my permission to use them any way you like.
And thank you.
Can I turn them inside out, upside or round and round Thanks... I wish I was young... I think the only one older than me is Moses
Jim is keeping us all in suspense! Looking forward to seeing these images! This has turned into a quite interesting thread... wonder what Jim is finding?

Aviarial cuddling must have turned into snooze time.
They are not lathe lines... Pics 3 and 4 show why they are not lathe lines... The lathe would have exploded with that much wobble and there would be no die remaining... I believe one is a crack... The one that starts at the top of the first stripe (green arrows) and meanders down below the ON of ONE and into the stripes... There may even be a slight shift where the line enters the top of O in ONE (blue arrow)... All of the lines are in relief... I included an overlay of Cliffs 2nd coin onto the 1st coin beneath the CE... Since Cliffs image was taken at an angle the exact alignment is off a bit except directly below the E... Since they are on both coins I do not think it is a plating issue??? Other than the one I pointed out I think they are all related to a bad die polish job... You never know tho it may be my pair of doilies or over anal eyesing
I can't thank you enough for your insight and imaging. Being in relief is why I thought it is a die issue also.
Did you see the ones (Multiple) around the E that go above PL, onto the field, across the peak of the shield and down to the right of the M in UNUM?
Also I think there is a die chip on the edge of the shield over P of PLURIBUS.
(I like them and I'm willing to loan one to anyone that would like to study one in person. Just send a PM.)

You are welcome... Being in relief and the same on 2 separate coins is also why I think they are die related... I also see the ones on the NW of the shield... You can see those in the full rev pic... I probably should have pointed them out??? I will need to look at that possible chip again (I thought it was a crack???)... By the way you can download the pics I posted they are yours!!!

Great photos and overlay Jim, thank you! I see exactly what you are seeing as well. That does look like a die crack leading down and over the O of ONE and all those other squiggly lines would certainly make you think of die polishing but it is strange looking compared to the die polishing scratches we normally see. Very interesting thread Cliff! Maybe the mint worker had the hiccups and let the polishing wheel get out of control

I will download them and thanks again.
And chalk this one up to a very interesting Possible/probable bad polishing job .
