Super scarce 1911D OMM found at FUN!

Originally published in the HUB a number of years ago, this very scarce variety surfaces only once in a great while. Back when ANACS was publishing their census (2005 was the last one, I believe) there were a total of three graded.

Since I first started looking for these in 2003 or 2004 I had found three of them until last week, with the nicest one found the condition census coin - an AU58. The other two were VF20-25 examples.

I found this example while walking the floor at the FUN convention in Orlando a week ago Friday. It's quite an exciting find, considering just how scarce these seem to be!

I believe CONECA lists this die incorrectly as an RPM, but I cannot confirm this.

I will take and upload photos of this find when I get a chance.

Chuck I have a 63 R&B one at Ken Potters for review only I have not heard back from him since the coin was sent in July. He said he wanted to see a MS example. It was posted here and ID when I bought it. Your talking about the RPM # 5 or the D/S variety correct?

I am more curious of his examination than time he has had the coin.

I have a copy of a nickel DDO and RPM / Plus a BU copy of the 10-S Inverted S/S Cent - I offered to send to him a couple of months ago without a response. He may be extremely backlogged or how is is health?. Bob is on the CONECA BOD - maybe he can shed some light for us...
Maybe Bob is not, I figured he was because he is still listed on the contacts last page of errorscope, sorry if I mis-spoke Bob!

A couple of years ago there was a thread on this same subject on one of the forums regarding the same person, who had coins for attribution for months and months. I don't remember if anyone ever found out why, but the thread got pretty long and intense with some angry people who wanted their coins back.

The question may be Rock, and ive wondered myself. How much is the Charge? I've never been able to find how much Mr. Potter charges for his coin registry listings? Or the charge for listing viable varieties in the Cherrypicker's listings? That may be the key for all of us!

I wouldnt be happy if anyone had my coins for almost a year with no communication. If someone is too busy they would usually tell you in advance.

I've done business with Ken for years. He's slow, but completely trustworthy. He and I chatted for a while last week and he again mentioned what I think is the main problem- he's made himself far, far too accessible by publishing his phone number in Strike it Rich with Pocket Change. When we were talking, he got no less than 3 phone calls from different people swearing that they had just found a 1969-S DDO. Ken related that he gets as many as several dozen of those calls a day.

In all fairness, Ken is easily one of the most friendly and kind people in the hobby. He'll give ANYONE the time of day and go to great lengths explaining the finer points of what we love.

His turnaround time is what it is, but your coins are safe, and I'm sure that the people who have mentioned having sent him items are aware of it.
