Blank Copper Planchet? Nickel

That's right...I don't think it's a knockout...but I do think it was punched out of sheet metal.

I just dont see many knockouts being made of bronze/copper and weighing exactly 5.0 gr.
But then again, blanks are punched out of sheets at the mint, right?

Yes, I tend to agree that this probably isn't exactly what it is. That's why I prefaced that comment with, "except for the color...." I was offering that up as what it "looked like" because the sharp edge and rounded edge didn't look like a planchet or blank to me. Interestingly, an electrical box knockout does in fact weigh 5 grams (or thereabouts) and is slightly larger than a nickel. Maybe this isn't exactly what it is, but I'll bet it is on the right track of thinking. You'll probably never be able to know for sure as Chris said. Thanks for the interesting post.
