Had good day at the local coin show

    Hello all,

I spent a few hours cherrypicking at the Lansing Coin Club Spring Show today. Highlights below:

    1999S Proof Close AM

    1909P-1DO-001 (VDB)
    1909P-1DO-002 (VDB)
    1956D-1MM-001
    2011P-1DO-008

The best find of the day was the 1999S Close AM in a normal proof set. My was racing for a long time!! All in all, I paid around $20 for everything.

No idea, hard to tell with the plastic holder. Do you think I should send it in to PCGS?

I think that is a coin that would sell better in PCGS plastic with the variety designation on the label. That way there would be no doubt about what it is to anyone (even though its obvious to most of us). It will cost you a pretty penny to have it encapsulated though. I think its up to $75 with variety designation?!? Terrible!! It doesn't look like a cameo to me, but its still a very valuable coin worth $500+ from what I've seen.

eBay prices say anywhere between $100-200 for a 99S Close AM PF68, which some variation outside of that. Does anyone think it's still worth it to send it off?

Id send it in for sure, but bundle it with some other coins. If im not mistaken, this one has a PCGS number and doesnt require the extra attribution fee. Prices have fallen off the cliff for both the 99 and 98 proof CAMS, but you can't miss a profit buying sooo low.
                        Very impressive picks!

A few more questions on the 99 CLAM.

                            1) Does everyone still think this variety should be slabbed? What do you think, Chris?
                            2) When I send it to PCGS, should I break it out of the holder?
                            3) If so, how exactly should I crack open the plastic?
                            4) Roger- was your coin raw or slabbed?

IMHO I'd keep it raw. A quick dip in acetone and into a airtight. Till you pay the slabbing fee, variety fee, shipping, ins, you'll have at a min 75 bucks in a 125 dollar coin or so. But you have to decide if its worth it. By the way, fantastic cherrypicks, you did very well.
