Looks like you have a Wexler 2014 WDDO-003! Very nice DD Sheila! The die crack on the left side of the Shield looks to match, so does the die crack connecting the lower C and E of CENT. However... I am not seeing the die chip in the 4 on yours and I'm not seeing the die crack connecting the EN of CENT. I have been waiting to see one of these show up without the die chip in the 4... but yours doesn't have it... right? I can't see it... appears to not be there.

Sheila, I think yours is the same as Wexler's WDDO-003 based on the appearance of the doubled die and what I saw comparing your photos to Wexler's markers, and now we know yours also has the die chip in the 4. The markers I saw that looked to match are in the top quote above. See what you think.

OK, I left it in the plastic holder and looked at it. They die crack is there. The plastic holder took some of the glare off of it.
The part of the definition of class 9 that there was a "shift" during the hubbing could explain why the post broke off. Lateral movement of the hub could have broken it off. Bob, would you agree that this is a possibility or am I missing the boat here?
Had never thought about it Will, but in this case is very well could be applicable. We do have some precedent with broken devices such as the 1936 broken R in LIBERTY and the 1941 Broken last T in TRUST. However, since those were with multiple hubbings and this one is with a single squeeze, the 'snap back' seems to me to be a stretch. Why it only broke that one area and didn't affect others would be a question I would have. Since the snap back would have happened in the earliest part of the hubbing, then that would include the highest parts of the conical die.
I guess the simple answer is I just don't know but by trying to visualize the hubbing, I could see something like this happening because of a metal flaw or something like that.

Cool, thank you for the follow up! Sheila, I have become a huge fan of white copy paper since Ray has been helping me with the new set up. No matter where your light source is coming from, putting white paper between the light and the coin really helps. Like right now... I have two full boxes of 2019P's (yay and yuck at the same time). I have a white paper circle diffuser covering the LED lights on the Celestron and a white paper tent between the Celestron and this dangling gooseneck "natural daylight" light bulb that is on a floor lamp leaning on my desk. Before I got this full ream of paper I was using envelopes... they had that blue security stuff printed inside of them - bad idea - it turned the coin a weird shade of purple blue.

wow! I don’t have room for that kind of set up. I have just a small area. And a small desk.

I hear ya... before I got this L shaped hand me down desk from my son, I was considering having to use the kitchen table. My other desk had just enough room for a monitor, keyboard, mouse and the Celestron! Good thing "pennies" are small

Awesome gift... Rite on with Wexlers 003 which is VVs 003... VV only has Stage B listed... Does your coin have the die cracks on the fore head and in the hair that are on VVs sample???

Great coin and what fun getting these as a surprise in the mail to boot. I also like the great detective team work everyone. And for the record it’s not me sending these coins either. But I am glad someone is.
