New definition of a "PCGS rattler"

We've been blessed with 2 amazing boys- Seamus (shay-mus, kinda like Sean) and Liam. Seamus is the 9 year old "Baby Whisperer". When all else fails and Liam's fussy- we beg his big brother to put a smile on his face (it's NEVER not worked).

Liam was born 5 weeks premature due to natural pregnancy complications. But the amazing little bugger has-no kidding- slept through the night since he was 4 months old (3 months old actually, if you use is expected due date of Sept 21).

One day last week when the "Baby Whisperer" was stuck in his 4th grade class, Liam was busy cutting a new tooth. We'd tried EVERYTHING, including a few remedies that I'd never heard of. Nothing worked. Anna was screaming-baby exhausted, and I promised her I'd keep things under control while she caught a short nap. Nothing was working still.

I hauled Liam down to my home office in his favorite baby carrier- a USPS mail bin! He was still fussy, and I reached for the nearest safe teething toy- a PCGS slab.

Instantly- as soon as he had the coin in his hands, HE LIT UP! And laughed and smiled. Was the second time this punk made me cry (both moments of extreme joy). It wasn't that he liked it for a second- he was FULLY entertained by the '17-S cent. He held it, shook it, tasted it and laughed for nearly 30 minutes! He'd never had a coin in his hands, and for some reason, refused to set the coin down. I'm not exaggerating, it was hard to believe- so I took a photo of the moment he got the coin, and another on the same camera setting (don't know how to explain the over-exposure appearance) a few moments later. You'll see what brought tears to my eyes!

That is a very cool story Chris. We are still having problems with my grandson Gabriel, but when and if you find the right thing to satisfy them, it is a wonderful thing. You have a very handsome young man there. I wonder how happy he'd be if he was chewing on 55 doubled die slab!

I hope all is well with Gabriel, Bob. We were still recovering from the shell-shock of a month long hospital stay, when I read your post. I recall that the thread struck me kinda a bit harder than it would have a few months earlier. I agree, there's no sound in the world like a content infant!

On the slab- it's a $10 reholder fee for any coin, wouldn't upset me. But that boy will never touch my raw coins!!! lol

He's a cute little guy and that's a cute story. Never thought of trying to entertain one of my kids with slabbed coins. My wife would likely flip out at the thought of a dirty metal disc contained within plastic being in one of my kids' mouths.

They're more sterile than a used baby toy when they come back from the TPG. My wife's on top of it too, took some explainin'!

That is so awesome. He is a cutie petutie.

I think might have yourself a Doubled Die, lol, a child prodigy in the making? Like father like son.

Very neat story. I like it. I miss those baby moments. The crying, the smiles and coos and giggles and all the funny little things they do that you swear you are going to remember, always.

I've got a pair of Doubled Me's! I was very careful not to push coins and antiques on our 9 year old. Now, he's jacked to go out with us picking and learn about coins too. Seriously, he's ecstatic, and so am I!

I can share those moments with you CW, as I just became a Grandpa three weeks ago. My grand daughter will not sleep much at night so I wonder if the Lincoln Set that I am building for her would keep her happy all day and allow her to rest at night.

AWW...he's a cutie and he probably already knows he's spoil material!
I'm with Lara, I do miss having them around cooing and having them to squeeze.
My two oldest sons are 25 & 29, with no children, my youngest is THAT, a daughter 11.
I do love that story and Liam just wants more ATTENTION!.
