Got put on my banks Do not Coin list.

Well thats basically what it is. I tried to save the one bank i dump coins at life a little easier with hand wrapping my 367.50 of pennies into 13 boxes of coins. ( there abouts ). So yeah i bring them in use their hand truck to bring them in to find out my bank doesnt accept hand rolled coins anymore. News to me. So I had to sit there and open each roll. Well to move this along they allowed a teller or 2 during off peak time to help. Apparently they complained to the district manager and my other bank where I do business got chewed out for selling me boxes of pennies. What was a simple oversight of company regulations that were never told to the customers ended up with me spending an hr opening up rolls. ( which i did there cause hey im there and also another bank ( same name ) gave me the rolls to make life easier. ) I figure why have them change bags when they can have them in the boxes. Anywho they traced the boxes back to my normal bank and they were instructed to no longer sell me coins of any denomination over 2 rolls per visit per day.

The manager at my normal bank said I heard about what you did and why you did what you did. She went on to say they stopped that policy of taking hand rolled coins 6 months ago. ( which explains the time lapse from when i got the wrappers to when i cashed in the coins). The whole district has a watch for you and buying coins by account number. Shes like Im not gonna stop you cause your a good customer But there is a new policy out Which the print out I was shown was called the "penny limit" that states customers can not cash in more than 50.00 ( worth of pennies ) in one shot per day per bank. Which went on to say this applied for all denominations that no more than 1 bag can be filled per customer per day per bank. I dont know if this is a district thing or a whole corp thing. But I found it interesting to read the term "penny limit". At least my bank will still order me pennies but she said they will be watching us for what we do order for a LONG time and that the miscommunication shouldnt punish me cause I rarely ever bring in more than 75.00 worth of cents ever at a time.

So how do you like that, Im basically on a do not coin ( order coin ) list. I make friends everywhere. PS. even with the 1 hr delay it didnt hold up the machine for other customers to cash in their coins nor did it effect the wait time for people coming in for normal banking transactions. Go figure.

Jay, Sorry to hear of such a foolish bank policy. All I can say is there are other Banks and Credit Unions close to you. I remember back in 63 when I started getting rolls to search some of the tellers were a little annoyed but in most cases others were very helpful; return trips were I spent avoiding the rude ones.
      Thanks for sharing.

I could have told you that banks institute the policy now. It's pretty much common-sense as far as I'm concerned if they have a counting machine in the lobby. $300+ in pre-rolled coins is considered suspicious by most banks, and they *will not* accept them.

My bank goes so far as to take my bricks of copper and hold them in the vault for later withdrawal.

Perhaps you are not flirting with the manager enough?
(my bank's manager is a middle aged woman that likes to hear how nice her earrings look!)

Flirting with the teller's is nice, but the manager is the one that has final say!

IF your manager is a woman - tell her she "smells great, hey what perfume is that? I'd like to get some for my wife!"

OR if a male - "What gym do you go to - you are ripped!"

          LOL!

What ever it takes to get the next brick!

I have been put on a limit myself at B.O.A and I have to have an account there before I can get anything. In fact they say that is part of the cost of doing business. PNC is more willing to give bricks and usually ask how many I need.

maybe you should start spreading them around town..maybe a roll here and there ...i dont think stores would complain at all... i know some store have self-serv lanes,,like Home Depot and Walmart. Spend a couple rolls here and there, gas station, post office, . Put some in the offering plate. Find a free coin counting machine, my credit union offers this service.

OR you could start showing your appreciation for people who go out of their way to be helpful by bringing in chocolate or donuts from time to time- a person who reciprocates another's kindness is rarely seen as a nusance. If you look at people like Maineman and others who form personal relationships with the tellers responsible for handing over potential treasure, you'll learn that when a person feels valued they aren't annoyed by minor inconveniences.

Man that is a bummer. Funny how different banks have such different policies. Our CU won't take rolls, but you can bring in as much loose coin as you want to have counted and bagged, but anything over $200 you pay a 2 or 3% fee. Once counted they deposit the funds directly into your account. The only thing they request is not to fill the gallon jugs I put the culls into as they are hard to lift to the counter. No problem! But at the CU you have to order boxes of coin and it takes about a week to get them. The bank we use accepts hand rolls but save them for us and others looking for hand rolls. They don't like taking in loose coin as much as the CU. But they always have boxes of coin on hand. So we take the loose coin to the CU and then go to the bank and pick up boxes and hand rolls. The things people do to get and search coins.

My bank has had the same 3 boxes of cents in their vault for 6 1/2 years, and the are happy to get rid of them. I have only got one so far, they said NO ONE EVER gets coins from them but me!!!! That is the way I like it!!!!!!

I started getting bricks, $100 at a time, and the ladies at the bank just basically laugh at me. They have all said, "why would someone need so many pennies?" or "this is a first" as she hands me the boxes. The manager is a real nice lady. The first time I got some coins from them, I noticed she was a big Yankees fan, as her area is full of Yankees stuff. Now, since I have my own hoard of autographs, I gave her some choice Yankee signatures for her collection.

She could not be any nicer and helpful. Hope it continues.

I have been a member of this CU for over 20 years so that might account for something as well. Grease the wheel....

The other thing is I know they shorted me 80 and wouldn't look into it either. The bank that complained and got me banned. They told me I could go else where and then I can pay 6% for using their machine. All this cause noone told me they don't take hand rolled coins. This just means I gotta get more loose coins build up a lot and bring them ALL in at once. They can't refuse me even if it's with the 6% Deduction.
