    For those who prefer copper

Just thought I'd share pics of my massive ''new" copper coin.

There are one and two pence versions of this coin and this 2d version weighs in at nearly 57 grams!

    Thanks for looking.

Very nice T, that is a high dollar coin in the right condition!! The rims are chewed up a little but the rest of the coin looks great. The best I could do, was to combine two of my coppers to equal your weight, a one pence version of yours (in really bad condition) and a Portuguese coin in a little better condition. Now I do have a nice copper medallion that comes in at 166 grams, of which I have yet to I.D..

    Portuguese coin (https://en.ucoin.net/coin/portugal-2...853/?tid=63568)

LOL, seems like most of these have banged-up rims -- I'm guessing because they are so heavy/bulky they are dropped often.

This one I considered reasonable [well below $100].

There are some nice old European coins out there. Finding a 1-Pence Cartwheel [pics below] at a coin show led me to getting the 2d Cartwheel. Yours looks to have some counter-stamp on it.
That is a nice medallion -- You just don't want to put it in your pocket before you go swimming!

I would say you did well then!

Your one pence is in tough shape but still 10x better than mine! I don't know if that is a counter-stamp or just damage from another coin.

The medallion is very cool and has fantastic detail, hope to find out what it is. I've spent hours researching and have come up empty, I thought Middle Eastern to begin with but I think it's Asian.

The symbols look Asian and Mongol warriors were very adept horsemen and archers.

Not sure how to do an internet search on the symbols: Maybe Google has a special search engine for them.

The symbol in the 5-pointed star might be "findable".

Thanks for the help, did not mean to mess with your thread. Your coin just made me think of all the large coppers I had.

I was thinking about the impressive size of your two pence though, it is just slightly larger than a Morgan dollar but must be twice the thickness because it is more than double the weight. Very cool coin!

                Where is a counter-stamp?

It looks to be damage from the edge a coin or coins that were mashed into the one pence a couple of times.

Huh, there are those that prefer something else?
Nice large copper but I thought cartwheel was used when describing a coin in original mint condition.

Jon, Asian would be my guess as well on your medallion. (The rider/archer made me think of Japan but Mongolia might be it also?)

Awesome pics Jon... I was able to zoom in to 800%... I don't think those are bag dings at least not the one with the letters... The letters are in the correct orientation... Those could be from JAMAICA???

You are correct Jim, I was not paying close enough attention. Maybe T was right about an counterstamp.

I don't know??? Take a look at these links Numista, Ebay and another link from the bay An error maybe since the coins do have the word JAMAICA???

Thanks for the links Jim!! I looked but came up empty, not sure if it's damage or and error or possibly a counterstamp. The reason I'm still questioning damage is an A or an I could be backwards and we still would not know and there is a letter to the far east that looks to be a backwards L. I had never given it any thought before TPring brought it up and then Ed was questioning it. The coin is no longer in my possesion though, it went to another LCF member that collects foreign cents and they may bring it up at some point.
