sending a coin to anacs for grading.

can anyone answer this ; i have one coin that is worth about $40 . i want to send it to anacs to have it professionly graded. but they want $14 fee, $19 postage, then the cost of my postage of sending it to them ,insurance, cost of padded envelope etc. it just dose'nt make any sense. i want to use anacs because anyone can submit coins without joining with them. please tell me how you guys do this. otherwise i would have to sell this $40 coin for $80.

I don't see the point of stabbing a 40 dollar coin if it will cost 80 to stab it if you are just going to sell the.coin. if you plan on keeping it I can see why you would.

If you want to sell it throw it in a 2x2 and call it good.

I would advise waiting until your have several to send in. Like right now I think they have a special going on for $10 per coin up to 20 coins. Unless you have a somewhat valuable coin, the costs outweigh the value. No fun waiting, but probably the best scenerio with a lesser valued coin. Just my 2 cents! LOL Bill

Many people say pay for the coin, not the slab but unfortunately this appears to be the game we play

I think you have to send in 20 coins to get the $10.00 per deal. And if they are varieties and errors, then add $5.00 more per coin. That's a $300.00 hit to grade 20 varieties. At least that's how I seem to remember reading the special on ANACS. I may have it wrong too.

Holy crap! Anacs cost that much? Wow. I've never slabbed a coin so I have zero experience. I always thought Anacs was the cheapest for mid-grade quality? I also thought I read that it ONLY cost $15 somewhere on here?

Guess I read and interpreted it wrong.

ANACS is the least expensive, but as already pointed out, send more than one coin to get good pricing.Personally I don't send anything unless it's above the $100 mark and a slab is necessary for attribution. I have very few that fit the bill, one being an 09-S vdb.

Anacs is about as cheap a tpg as your going to find for grading. But as the others have said why bother slabbing it. I rarely slab anything. Airtights, and cardboard 2x2. You can make up your own album. Dont buy into the plastic game. For certain coins and collections, I agree they should be slabbed. But for common low dollar coins, save your money and use it to buy more coins. I collect coins, not tpg opinions. Just me.

Then i would wait till you have a coin that you think would value more then the stabbing process. you can always look at the PCGS photo grade.

                            Tony,
I understand your frustration with this... I am in the same boat. Even getting my small date 1970S is not worth it. It would be nice.. but not feasible. I found a lot of DDO's that are valued around 20 dollars each, maybe more depending on the buyer. My thought was if I get one slabbed it might sell for more as I have seen online. However the gamble isn't worth it if the coin will not sell with a premium. If you want it slabbed for your collection that's different, do it if you can justify the cost. I don't want to hoard coins, so I keep one of everything I find and put the rest in a "sell/trade/or give away" box, I hope to be able to sell them so I can get a scope... If you want to sell some coins, items sell for a higher price if you have really good pictures Eventually I will slab a few for my sons collection regardless.

Do you know why is the postage so high?

According to the "Shipping Calculator" on the back of their submission forms it starts at $19.00 for "Postage, Insurance, Packaging, and Handling". Lowest rate for 1-5 coins with a claimed value from $0-$100 is the base rate of $19.00. It then goes up from there for amount of coins and declared value. I have sent coins in twice to ANACS, and all come back insured with delivery confirmation. Speaking only for myself, I think it's somewhat reasonable rates considering the services provided. I guess it really depends on the coins and their value to the person submitting them if ANACS is the route you want to take. Bill
