Thanks Bill! And yes, the fee is a great price considering the work that goes into the grading etc. No doubt about that. Thank you for pointing that out
Why not just buy a slabbed coin ?...you can probably get one cheaper than having it done. In fact, buy a few in different grades.I would stick with PCGS for your intentions, lately I hear ANACS is being too conservative.
If the coin is near and dear to you maybe you want to slab it. Unless the coin is worth 200 or more I don't grade them. I like to feel the coin in my hand - it's better to see it.
Oh well - whatever you do - be grateful you have a nice rare coin!

I actually find that to be better. I think if a company overgrades than they would eventually lose their reputation.
If your car was only worth $500, would you spend $1000 on getting the engine rebuilt when it blew up and then complain that the price of rebuilding an engine is absurd?

Tony - Do you have a coin dealer near your location? I had mine,"Scotsman Coins" slab my PCGS 3 legged buffalo years ago. I think the final price was $40. You need to find a dealer you know and trust to send the coin for you along with a group of his/there coins. That way you pay for the slab and a minimal fee for postage. Eric

Probably
I just recently sent in some coins to ANACS, they are the cheapest on the block, normally I just buy pcgs coins slabbed, because depending on the coin you can get it cheaper than it would cost to slab it yourself. But some of my finds I want in a nice slab to protect them for the coming years so that I can pass them on to my nephew when Im dead and gone and they will have an easier time looking it up and/or selling it (I hope not!).
This is a photo of the most recent ad in Numismatic News. It's a really good deal if you have 10 coins or more. (Go to their website to print the form.)
