Though I've never submitted one, I've heard that coins that have been conserved with Verdicare get through, so it's certainly possible that there are other formulas that could also leave no trace. Yet to be determined I guess.

At about $3.15 an once, it looks like it works well enough to get some and sell it at $4.50-5 here at LCR if you can somehow manage to get some. Thanks for sharing Frank.

I think it's very interesting, but without knowing what the substance is, other than where it is used, I don't think I'd volunteer to come into close contact with it.

I'm not being mean Frank, I was joshing, but seriously- I think for your own safety you should figure out what you're using without gloves.

There's no arguing, it takes a horribly ugly coin and makes it look like a Gem, no question about it. Kudos for your straightforwardness too.

Having owned that coin for ten years, stained and toned purplish blue, I cannot fathom such a magic potion to make it into a bright red coin without completely stripping it down. Id like BadThad to chime in anytime now with the chemist's perspective.
It looks very unnatural to me, like it has been replated.
I guess it's better than the old stained cent, but if that makes it into a slab than I can no longer hold much faith in third party grading. Frank, why dont you send it into PCGS? I think it would be an interesting experiment and all of our curiosities have certainly been peaked.

I was thinking about sending to ANAC. They are tuff on there grades, that's why I sent the 1922 to them and not PCGS. I have lost my faith in PCGS.

Frank, why don't you send a small sample to Badthad for analysis ?

Getting back to basics; it's now one nice looking coin.

Something can be acidic without having "chemicals" in it. Not saying that is the case here, but something to think about. I have seen naturally occurring citric acid used to clean copper pipes.

I am just reading this now. My brother worked for Westinghouse when they would do all the testing of pumps and valves for the nuclear plants all over the country. When Westinghouse got out of the business he and a couple of guys he worked with started their own company and now are one of the biggest in the country doing it. He visits the nuclear plants all the time and has great relationships with all of the higher ups at the plants. I will forward this post to him to see if he can find out what that stuff actually is without causing issue for Frank or bringing him up at all. He might already know what it is for that matter. Will let all know.

Just be patience. I'm not sending anything to nobody!!!!!! I will find out what's in it and if it available for sale and I'll let you know. I'm going back in a month or so maybe sooner and I'll find out. I don't need help and please let me handle this. Some things in a place like this you need to watch what you say what you do. I have been going for almost 20 years and know a lot of people and I'll find out. What's the big deal. It's just something I use for some of my coins like everybody else has there way. I made a call Friday to a top personal down there and they said they will check into it. I'll let you know when I know something. Untill then you will have to sit tight and wait just like me.

Okay what you have been waiting on. I found out what this contains and were it is made. I was told it is made in France. It comes in a powder forum. What I got was already mixed with water. That explains why they said to shake it well before I used it. The ingredients are as follows
                          NATURAL AND BIODEGRADEABLE
COMPONENTS ARE CLAY/SOAP FLAKES/GREEN SOAP AND MINERAL OIL.
NON TOXIC AND CONTAINS NO PHOSPHATES, WILL NOT HARM SKIN AND IS KID-SAFE.

This is what I was told by a supervisor. He gave me word to word what he saw. There was no company name listed on his paper work but he is looking into it.

All I can say is the change this substance brought about on that coin is nothing short of amazing! I have had great success with mineral oil in the past for lifting off dirt, etc., but now I need to find out what "green" soap is, that's for sure!! I also wonder if the particles of clay could have been responsible for creating the tiny hairlines as you rubbed the substance on the coin? This leads to the question. Does it have the same effect if you soak the coin in the mixture, or do you need to rub it on with the cloth?

Thank you so much for putting yourself out there and letting us all know about this, Frank! It looks like it could be quite useful for coin conservation, but I hope you can research it some more. I still find it hard to believe that this isn't harming the coin in some way, but it sure looks great at this point.

Thanks for the link Roger. The part that is bothering me right now is that is admits that it contains "abrasives" that clean "without scratching." That seems contradictory to me.
