Two variety coins come to my mind and both were discovery pieces. The 1946-S Lincoln cent with inverted mint mark and the 2004-P Lincoln cent with with both an obverse and reverse doubled die.

      Rock,

Believe it or not, from 500 wheat cents I purchased on Ebay for 15 bucks. I didn't purchase them from a coin seller, but rather the typical online yard-sale seller that you see on Ebay. His ad said he'd had a bag sitting in his closet for years and it was time to get rid of them. He had broken them up into five 500 coin lots. I happened to have bid on the final lot he had. I don't live far from Bill Fivaz, so I had him authenticate it and send it into ANACS. It graded AU details/whizzed, but it's a nice looking coin. I still don't know where they got the whizzed from.

Has to be my avatar, the 88D RDV-006 I found in July. It turned out to be a Discovery Piece, and is currently the highest graded example to be found. It was actually my first find I pulled only a few weeks after starting to work on Harris albums for my grandson. Quite a way to get hooked into an amazing hobby!

My discovered love of Die Chips and assorted other variations. Its hard to cherry when everyone else is looking for the same type of cherries. But having something so minor that noone else cares about helps fuel my passion. Also the fact that I can dip into everyone elses area and find what I want at no major mark up ( minus Morgan Dollars for the VAMs ). I kept wondering with type sets i kept being burnt out. It was cause I was in competition with people with bigger bank rolls to drive prices up ( for keys and semi keys ) . This new area i found keeps me going and discovering alot more. Costs a fraction of what i used to pay for newps. and the find rate is so high i cant get tired of it cause everything is always new. That is what I call a great find. Your greatest find isnt always a coin as much as a new way to collect and a new area to search for.

Mine was an awesome 1964 class 2/ md combo. It was the first really cool coin I ever found. I say "was", because when friends give to you, you give back. The King is the new owner. Good to be the King ( Rollem) Tom

My recent find of a 2004P-DDO/DDR-001 was a thrill but I'd have to pick the 2011P-1DO-004 as the find of my newbie obsession. The methodical hunt that followed over the next few weeks for the bank source of the first coin I got as change at the local Home Depot was (to me) not unlike a successful "cold case" episode. Got enough fuel from that to carry me for a while, despite lackluster results lately.

My favorites are the ones I have sent in for attribution that became new discovery pieces.
Or first reported, which is a good title also.

I would say my greatest find monetarily would have to be when I got four original bank-wrapped BU rolls of 1982-P Kennedy Halves. They Greysheet wholesale for about $75 per roll, and I got them at face value. Talking about $65 per roll if I ever bring myself to selling them.

The best single-coin Lincoln cent find is difficult for me to determine, but I think I'll go with the 2006 doubled ear that I sent in to Ken Potter, which he determined significant enough to publish. Have a page on my website showing it here: http://www.wendellcarper.com/2006-lincoln-cent-ddo.html.
