An 1859 Pattern FE and a 1911-s in a roll! DEFFINATLY a night to remember!

My best finds ended up with unusual and unfortunate circumstances....

1922 no D strong reverse i actually found on the sidewalk outside of a local store.
1938 D DDR in about MS-65 condition that I got in a roll.

(I also had quite a few other coins, silver and gold, with me at the time of the story below).
About 2 months ago while leaving my friends house (at night) with a small part of my collection, 3 individuals though it would be conducive to their monetary gain to rob me at gunpoint.
One individual died at the scene, one individual was arrested later at a local hospital (all gunshot wounds are reported to the police), and the last individual (a frickin girl!) got away with my coins....(apparently there are some people who are faster than a speeding bullet).
Do I feel bad about the individuals who learned what the "bullet dance" means?...No, I don't.
Do I feel bad about missing the one person that got away with part of my coin collection?..Yes, I do.
What I feel the worse about is the coins I will never see again, and were probably spent on drugs...at face/melt value.

So...the final results are that I will never see the coins again, one person will never breathe again, one person with never breathe free air again, one person will hopefully die of a drug overdose, and I have a new scar to impress the ladies with.
(Chicks dig guys with scars...and the new one I have in my lower back is damn impressive).

Wow. That's a story that would make me think real hard whether I want to collect coins anymore. Very sad. No coin is ever worth a person's life.

                  I this case I didn't have a choice...
And before any of you bleeding heart liberals start crying out in rightous indignation, consider the facts.
I am still hooked up to an antibiotic I.V. because of the infection I received when they stuck a knife in my back at the same time I got a gun in my ear.
Every day a home health care worker comes over to change the I.V. bag and clean out the wound/take vital signs....yeah, it still hurts.
Apparently these individuals didn't plan on leaving a witness (yours truly), who could point them out in court.
I got lucky...no, strike that......I got extremely lucky.
If you plan on being a dirtbag criminal, never take your eyes off your intended victim....especially if that victim was a trained killer for his favorite uncle (Sam).....it may cost you your life.

It also prevents something like this from happening to another person. Imagine hearing a story on the news a few days later about someone else being robbed at gunpoint, maybe killed, and thinking "I could have prevented that".

I think this has come up in another thread (I think concerning Chris' safe)... Some of us are extremely prepared when housing our collections and protecting our families. I admire your story and thank you for the service you've done.

I have pictures of my injuries on my cell phone that I had the emergency room technician take....
I cant get my laptop to recognize the format so if anybody wants me to send one (or two) pictures to their phone, PM your number and I will send it right out..
Or just text my cell (include your name so I know who the heck I'm sending it to) and I will reply with a quick photo (and then immediately delete your number)...
And remember...this is a knife wound so be prepared.

My 3... a 1983 ddr die 2... back in the 80's my grandfather put a big wine bottle full of cent into rolls...$50.50 worth... he passed in 2001... latter my grandmother wanted to take them to the bank...she asked me if I wanted to "look" through them... around the $17.50 mark...POP there it was.....but what was it... it wasn't the ddr in the books...I looked and looked and found coppercoins...with it listed....
2...me and my son searched around $500.00 worth of Washington dollars for blank edges till we found 8 in one roll..nice memory with my son...we would get $50.00 from bank 1..search it...turn it into bank 2....go back to bank 1 and then to bank 3....turn them into bank 2 and on and on...
3 saw an article in coin world on New Mexico ddr's checked mine...found what I thought to be one...but not the one listed... took it to fun and had B.J. Neff look at it... he sent a pic to Dr James Wiles ,who wanted to see it....the coin was a new die discovery... listed in CONECA files as NM P DDR die 2...My discovery coin.....best 3 finds..with my grandfather, my son, and my self...

Not to continue with the side posts, but I think it's important for me to say that I also greatly appreciate your service kennymac and I wholeheartily support our troops. I always have. One of my sons is in Afghanistan right now for the 3rd time. I worry and pray for him constantly. 2nd, I was not judging you or your actions of self defense. The story was a sad one to read and I felt heartsick over the injury and loss of life. I'm sorry that you had to be in that circumstance which brought about your injuries and forced you to act with such deadly force in order to protect your life. I hope and pray none of us on the forum have to ever go through what you did.
