2017 Cents to Have "P" Mint Mark

Just when I thought the Shields couldn't get any uglier.

At least they could have hand punched it on the working die so we might have gotten some RPM's out of it. LOL Still, I'm looking forward to seeing the new coin.

Thanks Jody for the scoop. At least the Mint is trying to do something interesting with the somewhat boring looking Shield Cent Hope someday they bring the Memorial's back!!

I was just having a convo with my better half the other night about mint marks. She asked, "Why wouldn't they make a P for Philadelphia too?"...

        It's all her fault.

With some impressive DD coming out of the Philadelphia mint these past few years, it will be fun seeing one this year with the mint mark.

No. It's in the normal spot and only for one year.

I wish they would put a big, fat *** "P" right across the shield.

Huh! That's the government wasting their time on something with no purpose. It worked for over 100 years without it so why add it now. It seems silly to me.

They can use the dies from the mint set tokens instead of the shield, it's the right size and everything.

Just something more to be doubled So if some one finds a no P 2017 it is worth a bit What I find funny is that the guy stated they did not release the info just to see how long it would take for some one to report it... I thought mint employees had no sense of humor

I am curious, could they legally discontinue the cent without telling the public?

I don't think so. The merchants would have to know to make adjustments to their pricing and SKU's to adjust for nickel change. Not sure how Canada just did it, but I bet it was a nightmare.
