We've got 20 people signed up so far. Should there be a cap on total number of people to sign up? If so, how many people should be the maximum amount? I'm thinking in terms of making sure it doesn't take a year and a half of time for the bill to circulate and so there will be enough room for everyone's signature on the bill.

              This is great. I'm in.

I like the idea of a large sized note. I could pick up 4 of them for somewhere in the range of $100.

I think we should do at least 4 notes, possibly more. I will be willing to bid very heavily, but I don't want to hurt other members. But, I WILL have one on our office wall, right next to Chuck's set of engraver prints.

Come to think of it- I have a large dollar bill that my grandmother saved from circulation (when they came out with the small notes). She kept it in her billfold until her dying day (literally) at age 97. It's a very sentimental piece locked up in the safe, but if I could get LCR member's signature on it I would throw an instant donation into the kitty....

              This is fun.

I do have a question- what will the proceeds be used for? I ask because in the past I have taken up the causes of members in need of a little help. Once, not long ago, a member was dealing with terminal health issues and I privately solicited personal donations from core LCR members. It literally brought tears to my eyes when in less than 3 days over $800 was raised. I mention this because I think that maintaining an account for this purpose (helping LCR friends in need, when not solicited or asked for) could be an amazing thing. If emergencies don't arise, it could be used to fund contests, or better yet, promoting and educating others on what we do here.

Lots of ideas, just throwing out my own. Thanks Simon, this is a fantastic thread!

Chris, would the 4 notes all be sent to each person together, or would they go in a different order? I'm game for multiple notes.

An LCR "fund" sounds like a good idea. Maybe something for the mods to discuss.

Add me to your list, if you haven't started yet. Any thoughts of any who wants to add a bill of their own to be signed and when were done the bill would be return to the owner? I could supply some of the four pocket bill holders if needed.

I'd think that all the bills should be sent together. Tracking information is a MUST every time they are mailed out. When we're ready to proceed we can provide extremely clear instructions on how to ship (there are some parameters regarding a package with tracking).

I agree, tracking info should be used every time it gets sent to the next person. As you say, once we are ready to start, someone who knows the details of shipping packages can give concise instructions on how to ship the bills.

If we are shipping all the bills together, does admrose still provide the first bill? How does this work?

Let's figure it out- we could pool together a kitty of $100-120 for the cost of the large bills and reimburse those parties after the benefit auction of short snorters. If we're doing this, we might as well include some regular, crisp new $1 bills. A $5 bill with Lincoln and the memorial might be fun, or better than a $1. (understand, the signing circuit will take many months to be completed, prompt shipping from participants will be a must). I will be happy to provide very clear and precise shipping instructions.

Simon, you'll need to handle the logistics such as EVERYONE's mailing address, the direction things will go and what not. I'll be happy to assist in ways I can, our free time is severely limited though.

I could see 4 bills as a part of this. Here are my thoughts on the options...

                          -2 silver certificates, 1 large note, 1 $5 note

                          -1 silver certificate, 2 large notes, 1 $5 note

                          -1 silver certificate, 1 large note, 1 $5 note, 1 $1 note

                          -1 silver certificate, 1 large note, 2 $5 notes

The $5 notes should be crisp, without any major or distracting marks, folds, or damage.

Depending on who can provide the most notes up front, I think that is who we should start with. If they cannot provide all the notes mentioned, someone who can provide the rest will be the first to sign that particular note before sending them off to the official "starting" person. Then all the notes will be shipped together to the next person on the list.
If, for example, I was the person that provided all the notes, the order would start with me, meaning that all the people before me in the list would be added on to the end.

I can obtain and start them all (provided I can include my own, personal bill from my grandmothers estate- this one would have to be mine, no questions). I can pick up the other notes locally or at the Chicago ANA. My timeline for sending them out would be the second half of August.

I am OK with Chris starting if everyone else is. That means that Chris will have the first signature, 2old will have the second signature, and so on.

                              What should the bills be?

1 silver certificate, to be auctioned by the LCR

1 Large note, to be auctioned by the LCR

1 Crisp $5 (because it has Lincoln) to be auctioned by the LCR

An additional one of the above to be auctioned by the LCR

1 Large note belonging to Chris, not for sale
