What about an LCR Chat Room?

This may be a silly question, but here goes:

I remember, a decade ago or more, when I first discovered the internet- I spent tons of time in chat rooms talking to people that came from all walks of life- it was weird, but very cool.....

It's been soooo many years since I've been in a chat room (it that term still used?).

But, on Saturday night, at 11:15 PM PT, after 2 AM eastern, there's not a lot of members online, threads on LCR have been read. Not much exciting going on. If there were one or two other members in the same situation, it'd be a lot of fun to chat in realtime. Not talking about skype or anything other than good old conversation by way of keyboard. I know I'm not the only one who would have fun with this, it it at all a possibility on LCR?

That would actually be a cool idea...but I'm not sure how the website builders can make it happen.

Sorry everyone, I have to disagree with this idea.

For one reason only....I think it will take away from the integrity of this site and forum. I like it the way it is.

While I LOVE the social aspect of LCR, it provides me with a HUGE sense of belonging to a realm of people who share ideally the same interests, but I believe a chat room could spoil the light heartedness that happens here, the education and referencing and also the attitudes of those on here.

For example, recently a member of LCR has been excused from this site. If, theoretically a chat room was an option on here, this individual, I am sure would have been using it may have created A LOT more distension that what was already in place.

With this one scenario exampled, that doesn't mean that everyone will be of this sect of people. But why ruin a good thing happening already?

Chris, I understand your suggestion completely, as I too have been on here many a time at all hours of the day and night, unable to sleep or just worrying over simply daily living, and during those times, I would cruise through other members on line simultaneously and wondered the same thought....it would be nice to chat with others on line to kill time, words, questions, discuss other similar subjects and the like.

Lets think 2 years from now.....if LCR creates a chat room, where would it leave this forum?

Lets think 2 months from now...if LCR creates a chat room, would that divide us as a family and create cliques?

Lets think 2 days from now...if LCR creates a chat room, would the forum become desolate of postings because of the 'new chat room' addition

Lets think 2 hours from now....nah forget it, I'll be asleep, I worked 12 hours today and fished for 5 hours. I want to go shower and go to sleep lol

Seriously though, I feel that it would not be beneficial to LCR's dedication to include everyone, insiders and outsiders on education of the Lincoln Cent.

In my opinion....thumbs down.

I like the idea of chat. It can easily be integrated as I've seen it done on the same platform countless times. There may occasionally be bad eggs, but simply toss them.

I don't think it would distract from the forum at all, but rather enhance it.

That was my thought, not to become cliquish, but to have more fluid conversation, a more intimate and immediate type of conversation. Last thing I'd want is something that takes away from the great things about this forum!

Lara makes a good point and I understand where Chris is coming from. Why not use Facebook or twitter etc. if it is going to be a chat room. They already are set up to do this and would not tie up valuable space. I yield to others.
