I have to admit- I'm on the same page as Lara and Joe on the subject of FACEBOOK. But LCR isn't Facebook. We're all friends here, more like family.
My perspective is that it would help cut down on the dozen or more PMs I get a day. I love the interaction with everyone but individual messages can be taxing, actually it's more that if I have a really busy day I feel bad about getting back to someone a day or two later. I'd really like it if there were a more fluid way to interact with other members.
To clarify- a chatroom would allow members to converse by typing in real time. I could ask Joe something and if he was online he could answer immediately, I could follow up with another question and he could answer, all in a matter of seconds, without having 4 different PMs sent. It would allow many of us to get to know eachother better. I also don't think that it would in any way cut down on the amount of threads, if anything could foster additional thoughtful conversation in threads and very easily increase the knowledge of any member who wanted to participate. Of course, nobody would be obligated to take part.
ALSO- I think that if the chat room idea were to come to fruition, members should have to have a minimum amount of posts or some other kind of peer approval to get onto the chat room- this would cut down or entirely eliminate the idiots who simply want to hear their own stupidity in type (trolls).
Just my own thoughts....Last edited by liveandievarieties; 11-30-2011, 12:50 PM.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

I didn't bring it up, but probably because we never got any kind of a response from the powers that be, and now that a member has stepped up and offered to make it a reality for no cost, I just don't see a downside. But still waiting to hear the opinions of those who make such decisions.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

Also, I'd like to add that there are many personal questions I'd like to ask members (such as how did you get into collecting, how do you get your boxes, do you search federal reserve rolls or customer rolls, etc.). It's a lot a fairly light conversation that I'd like to have with people, but a thread is not really the place for a quick back-and-forth conversation. I feel limited by threads.
What if we made a chat room, and the dissenting members don't have to participate? It seems like there are enough supporters that we should give it a try.-Sean

OK, I see your point. Maybe someone (powers to be) did not see the Thread to respond to it.
Enough said on my part.

Or at a completely different address with no direct affiliation to the forum, for LCR members only, just another way to communicate with the people we want to. Just seems that it would make more sense to have it connected with this site, but either way, how do we make this happen???Last edited by liveandievarieties; 11-30-2011, 02:02 PM.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES

I'm in support of a chat room. It's as simple as going from mailing a letter to calling someone on the phone. Maybe it would be a good thing as I had many questions that didn't seem worthy to create a thread for, but Chris was nice enough to help me with the questions I did have.

I reopened this thread to see if a final decision/consensus was ever voted on.
That is the type person I am. I like to reread and research previous threads because I am a nerd. To be quite honest, I came across this thread while trying to research Atarians question about his 46inverted S wheats. He has been looking for the rightful owner, and I knew I remembered reading that thread when it was current.
In conclusion, I discovered this thread, got sidelined, and then realized that why am I doing this for? He can research past threads like I was. So I ended my search and picked up on this thread.

Right, this is also a possibility I can agree with.Or at a completely different address with no direct affiliation to the forum, for LCR members only, just another way to communicate with the people we want to. I just don't get it- I'm not arguing my point anymore, just trying to understand the opposing perspective. Why would anyone oppose a more productive way to communicate? This isn't FB, chat records can and often are deleted permanently.
Did you all say heck no to emails 15 years ago? I'm really not being a smart alec- trying to understand the oppostion to something that nobody is obligated to be a part of.Chris & Charity Welch- LIVEANDIEVARIETIES
