Not to toot my own horn here, but I'm a PHP developer by profession, and I work exclusively with chat protocols and social-type programming here at work. I have the experience and know-how to build a chat "area" for us, and hell, I'd even supply the hosting.

If it's beneficial for the LCR admins, I'd be more than glad to get something up and running for us all to use.

I'm still not in favour of this, but I brought it up for final resolution.
I do feel that it does hold benefits for this hobby as we do not have to wait for members to respond when they get online, and it may create a greater comradery between us but fears step in the way of socializing taking over open-discussion topics of findings, education and the possibility of cliques forming.

            Hi
I like the idea - but use facebook/twitter.
Faster and already used for conversations - even revolutions.

Roger, I 'm against Facebook and I don't use twitter. While I'm not 'everybody' but I'm sure there are others out there who feel the same way.

I boycott facebook. It brings too much trouble into one's life, regardless of how clean you keep it and post things. I speak from experience.

                Hi
I would vote for a new application function. If people don't like facebook, etc. I will probably be alot of work. Set up blog then on our server - people can then have large messages and away from lcr's core application.

I think it may help the hobby, but internet in general has done wonder's for our hobby!

I am another one that has to agree about facebook & twitter.

I think the Forum is fine as is and you also have PM to carry on a conversation.

Me I would rather send a E-Mail or write a Letter (I support the PO and all the employees).

I vote YES. I've been on forums before where a chat room is easy to use, and overall a positive experience for forum members. If people turn malicious, or the members decide they don't want it anymore, we can always get rid of it. Let's do it and at least see how it goes.

I don't want a chat room! Lets leave LCR as it is.If you want to chat,go to facebook/twitter.
I bet most members on LCR have a facebook/twitter account,so talk to them there.

                          Thanks.......................Ken.

I think the chat option is a good idea. I've seen it implemented on forums before, and it did not cut down on the number of threads at all. It just simply gives people the option of chatting when things are slow in the forums. Yes, you can chat on Facebook or probably a billion other places, but this would keep the traffic here on the site.
