Chris...I for one am not against it....but I'm not pushing it because once again, I believe it is up to Brad as he will be the one dealing with headaches, costs, etc. I honestly think on a forum like this,we can ask, but we really don't have the right to demand or vote on anything.

Really?..Right now there is 2 members on..including me. Whats the point of a chat room?.To instantly say hi to everyone that comes on while you sit here?. It would be a waste of everything. I mean if I get on facebook there can be 100 friends on and there wont be much conversation if any and that with people I KNOW personally. Is there really that much conversation about nothing that someone cant use a pm or email?. I dont see a need for it. What would be on there?

      "HEY , I just found a DDO!!"

      "Cool man,,post it"

I dont see the point at all. They didnt even last when they were around all over AOL.

I'm with Chris on this one. I'm not understanding the aversion to simply having the feature available. You may feel that you'll find no need for it, and a vote along those lines might be fruitful(would use it/would not use it), but to avidly campaign against is what I'm not getting. And I'm not being obstinate either; I'm just trying to understand.

I can tell you from experience that chat areas on forums that deal with specific subjects such as this get on quite nicely and do not devolve into chaos and fighting. There is no reason at all to think that we would all be amicable to each other on the threads and yet yield to some Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde mentality and bash each other over the heads in the chat area.

Also, as Scott pointed out, sometimes you just have things that aren't quite worthy of starting a thread and need only a simple answer. For instance, I might see Chris in the Chat room and pop in and ask him my question that I have about what kind of money he's seeing BU rolls of 19xx date selling for. Not to mention the fact that if it's late at night and no one else is around, if we had chat, I could just create a second account and chat with myself.

I don't think anyone has avidly campaigned against it here, they are just stating there opinion (no, yes, maybe) about implementing a Chat Room.

Jason, I agree that at times there are not many people on the forum. We simply wouldn't use it at those times. But there are times when there are many users on the site. If you don't think you could have any valuable conversation in the chat room, then you are welcome to not use it.

When you said that there were 2 members on, I think you meant that there were 2 members viewing this thread. At the time when you posted, there were 51 members online according to my LCR home page.

Also, like I said before, I've been on other forums (i.e., for birdwatching), where the chat rooms were fairly active at times and a great place to talk with others about general and specific aspects of the hobby.

from a newbie point of view... a chat room would be nice especially since I am in California and it seems like there isn't very many people on late PST and I have had to wait until the next day (ooooo lol ) to get help. So I can see how this would be helpful.
Is it possible to have a feature to turn a chat conversation into a thread as well?
              What's the Motto you?! Eh!

OK- This is the last time I'll lobby for the subject- Brad has said his piece and I'll accept that.

But imagine this- Having guest speakers- Fred Weinberg, Ken Potter, Q. David Bowers, David Hall, Alan Herbert etc., etc.,

We're a relatively respectable group with many members who are well known in the field, even some "movers and shakers" (absolutely not me that I'm referring to).

Given the chance, wouldn't you want to ask a few questions of some of the biggest names in the world of coins?? This isn't fantasy land, it happens in chat rooms all the time.

Chat rooms, as mentioned are what you make them. Only as good as their worst members, but we've got a pretty impressive group.

A chat room wouldn't change ANYTHING! In fact, if you chose not to participate, you wouldn't even know it existed. I personally feel that it would foster even more interesting subjects that members would be inclined to share in threads.

Turn LCR "into" a chat room? Where did that come from? It would simply be another facet of this incredible site, another icon on the front page, an additional option for communicating.

Just like those who don't use the LCR price guide- your lives aren't disrupted by it's existence!

But not my site, not my decision and I completely accept that. I just wanted to make sure that everyone understood what was being talked about before the idea was completely shot down in flames.

Out of curiosity- of the people against the Chat Idea- How many of you have used a chat room to communicate with multiple people more than one single time? I'd just be really curious. Because from my perspecitve it seems about the same as someone standing in front of the grocery store protesting that citrus fruit exists.....

Sorry, all done- no insults intended, no hurt feelings to anyone, and i do apologize if speaking my perspective offends anyone, nobody has to agree with me, let's just hear eachother out and understand where the other is coming from. If the entire world did that, there'd be no need for governments... okay, whole different subject!

Once again, I couldn't agree with Chris more. He's spot on with my thought regarding guest speakers. I was thinking the same thing, and it would be quite the opportunity for all who wanted to participate. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to ask general questions of Mike Diamond, Bob, BJ and others, but didn't feel they warranted a entire thread.

Also, as Chris pointed out, it would in no way mean that LCR would become a chat room. Chat could simply be an inconspicuous link in the top menu bar. At the bottom of the page it would display the users in chat exactly like it shows the current users logged into the forum. Here's an example:

Download Webcam GIFs for Free on GifDB. More than 50 Webcam Animated GIFs to download.

I too respect Brad's wishes, but let me throw this out there; what if myself, and possibly others in favor of it were to fit the bill to have it implemented on the site? It can be done cheaply.

I too would commit to financial responsibility if this could be implemented.

Where it says Room just change it to LCR if you dont like the full name. Its free you can make a quick link bubble you can click on and and walla be done. When you are on the login page just type your name in like you do here. I dont think you need a password for your handle BUT i think theres a way to do so and to save them Im not sure how BUT its simple fast free and works great. Easy solution a click away

                        Jay,

I agree. We could chat in many different places, but they would all take us away from LCR.

I must have missed this thread. Let me put it this way. I don't think we need a chat room. I see the reasons for it, but I would like to point to a case in point. Coppercoins.com has a chat room specifically for cents here: http://www.coppercoins.com/cgi-bin/chatpro.pl. They also have a forum. I've never seen the chat room active (always said nobody was on it). If you've looked and participated in its forum, you will see that it is far less active then ours. Why? I'm thinking that it's because Coppercoins can be a little tricky to navigate at times. Most of us simply use the die variety search and that gets us all we could ever ask for. However, I'm sure there was a time that this chat room was used, and possibly extensively. I don't really know. All I know is that it's still there. Perhaps those of you who want to chat could just head over there.

I think one saturday or sunday night for a few hrs wouldnt hurt things. we would still talk about the same things but in real time it would be nice. saves on sending PMs to even for 1 evening.

                                Brad,

Can I post in the off topic thread if i make my own chatroom called (lets say) TheOneCenters and ran it one night a week. ( not mentioning the group here but post it INCASE anyone here would like to go there to chat in real time on coins)? Those who would like to can do so and those who would like not to go dont have to . I would ask for permission before I do such a thread. I would hate to get in trouble due to not asking for proper permission.

Please consider this for us chatter-bugs.

                                Thank you
