Most of the blank boxes and rolls I have seen were from Loomis... Brinks and the other armor companies have their names printed on the boxes at least sometimes on the wrappers... I haven't seen any directly from the mint or fed reserve banks tho!!!Jim

Thank you Ed, I was wondering if the Federal Reserve rolled coins. So the coin rolling operation is Brinks? or whatever that may be called in different states?Comment

So I'm thinking the Mint has contracts with several different coin rolling companies, Brinks, Loomis, String and Sons, etc.. The Mint sends bags of coins to these companies to get rolled. That's where we get the term "bag marks". With the exception of rolls coming/purchased directly from the Mint like Ed said.Comment

From what I have seen at the local Fed facility, I think they ship coins in bins these days, not bags. And "bag marks" would apply to any coin on coin contact leaving a mark or dent on the coin. That would include when the coins tumble into the bin fresh from the press. Though the term originates from the time the Fed did bag coins. Don't know if all this is 100% correct but I'm pretty confident it is.Comment

If memory serves me correctly you can still get mint rolled coins and bags from the mint on their web site... Maybe not tho... I did not see any at this time https://catalog.usmint.gov/Jim

Learned a little trick yesterday! Went to the bank to get a brick, hoping for one that was not straight 2017P's since I still have one full one to search. As before, I opened the brick as soon as the teller slid it my way and again... all 2017P's
So, I asked if I could exchange it and she said "sure" but they have to code in the vault and it will take 10 minutes. No problem! Then she said... "we will dig down to the bottom to find some old bricks". Yay! just what I was hoping to hear! While waiting I asked if they had any customer wrapped rolls. She said, "someone just brought in $100 of wrapped pennies the other day" They only had $5 of them left so I got those and gave her my phone number so when it happens again, hopefully she will call me! The teller comes out of the vault and "YES for SUCCESS" a nice old brick with a bunch of copper coins on the ends!!!Last edited by VAB2013; 11-04-2017, 05:23 AM.Comment

Congratulations and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for solid copper rolls.Comment

Thank you Cliff! You know... the nice teller was a bit confused. She said "but I thought you were wanting all 2017P's??" and I said... yes, but I just got 2 full bricks of them in a row and I need a few dirty brown cents to give my eyes a break. That.... she understood!Comment

She will be able to share that tidbit she learned with other tellers in the future with a knowing smile.Comment
